Duties

  1. Certified staff member is expected to demonstrate the following behaviors:
    1. Planning for Instruction 
      1. Develops and prioritizes long and short-term learning goals and objectives according to District and building guidelines.
      2. Sequences learning goals and objectives to facilitate student learning.
      3. Reviews resources and teaching activities for content and appropriateness.
      4. Modifies these resources and activities, as appropriate, to increase their effectiveness in helping students learn.
      5. Sets high standards for learning and lets students know they are expected to meet those standards.
      6. Plans class sessions so that maximum class time is spent on active learning.

    2. Climate for Learning
      1. Maintains a task-oriented classroom atmosphere with a caring attitude and consistency in routines.
      2. Expects and requires students to pay attention, to work persistently toward completion of assignments, to exhibit cooperative attitudes, and, in general, to concentrate on academic activities rather than inappropriate socializing.

  3. The Assessment and Monitoring of Student Progress
    1. Monitors student progress
      1. Monitors frequently student progress, both formally and informally, and adjusts instruction as necessary.
      2. Provides students with immediate feedback in clear terms that are easy for the student to understand.
      3. Uses assessment instruments in the class, which matches learning objectives.
      4. Tests what is taught; items not taught are not tested.
      5. Uses post-tests to monitor student progress.
      6. Monitors student performance to identify special needs.
      7. Encourages parental involvement in monitoring student progress.
    2. Monitors instructional effectiveness
      1. Uses assessment results for instructional diagnosis and effectiveness.
      2. Uses results from evaluation activities to modify instruction for group/individuals to ensure student progress.
    3. Teaches for mastery of priority material
      1. Identifies student instructional levels before beginning instruction. (Introduction, mastery, review)
      2. Re-teaches lesson content when students show they have not learned it.
      3. Uses regular, focused review of key concepts and skills throughout the year to check on and strengthen retention.

Qualifications

Certified teacher with grades 1-6 or 6-12 credentials.

Additional Notes

This position will be for a homeroom of approximately 22 students that will receive instruction from the candidate in Math, ELA, Science, and Social Science.
