Duties

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Provide standards-based instruction in General Music (Grades K–4) aligned to Illinois Learning Standards for Fine Arts.

  • Plan and deliver sequential, developmentally appropriate music curriculum including singing, rhythm, movement, listening skills, music literacy, and introduction to instruments.

  • Direct and manage Choir (Grades 5–8) including repertoire selection, vocal technique development, rehearsal planning, and public performances.

  • Direct and manage Band (Grades 5–8) including beginning and intermediate instrumental instruction, sectional rehearsals, full ensemble rehearsals, and performance preparation.

  • Recruit and retain student participation in band and choir programs.

  • Prepare students for concerts, school performances, community events, contests, and festivals as appropriate.

  • Coordinate and oversee all aspects of music performances including scheduling, programs, communication with families, and equipment logistics.

  • Maintain inventory, care, and organization of instruments, sheet music, uniforms, and other music equipment.

  • Assist students and families with instrument selection, rentals, and care.

  • Develop and implement classroom management procedures that foster a positive, inclusive learning environment.

  • Assess student learning using formative and summative measures and maintain accurate grade records.

  • Communicate regularly with students, parents/guardians, and administration regarding student progress and program information.

  • Collaborate with classroom teachers, special education staff, and administration to support student needs.

  • Participate in faculty meetings, professional development, and school improvement initiatives.

  • Follow district policies, procedures, and safety protocols.

  • Perform additional duties as assigned by administration.

Qualifications

Qualifications

  • Valid Illinois Professional Educator License (PEL) with appropriate endorsement in Music required.

  • Ability to teach General Music (Grades K–4) and direct Choir and Band (Grades 5–8).

  • Knowledge of Illinois Learning Standards for Fine Arts and effective music pedagogy.

  • Demonstrated skill in vocal and instrumental instruction, ensemble rehearsal techniques, and performance preparation.

  • Strong classroom management, organizational, and communication skills.

  • Ability to build positive relationships with students, staff, families, and the community.

  • Commitment to creating an inclusive, supportive learning environment for all learners.

  • Experience working with beginning band students and developing growing music programs preferred.

  • Willingness to participate in school concerts, events, and extracurricular performances as needed.

  • Successful completion of district background check and all state employment requirements.

Salary/Benefits

Salary/Benefits

 District pays 100% TRS, single rate health insurance, and basic life insurance. 

Salary range is $41,634 (Bachelor's, 1st year) through $62,064 (Master's +32, 25th year).

Additional Notes

  • This position includes instructional responsibilities across multiple grade levels (K–8) and performance-based programming.

  • Evening concerts and occasional extracurricular performances are expected.

  • Candidate should be prepared to build and sustain strong band and choir enrollment.

  • Ability to collaborate with building principals, classroom teachers, and support staff is essential.

  • The successful candidate must demonstrate flexibility, organization, and the ability to manage multiple ensembles and instructional levels.
