Duties
Job Summary: The ideal candidate will be committed to providing high-quality education and support to students with diverse learning needs at the elementary and junior high school levels. As a special education teacher, you will play a pivotal role in creating inclusive and supportive learning environments, collaborating with colleagues, and individualizing instruction to meet each student's unique needs.
Responsibilities:
- Develop and implement Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) for students with special needs in collaboration with parents, administrators, and other professionals.
- Design and deliver differentiated instruction tailored to accommodate a range of learning styles, abilities, and needs.
- Utilize a variety of teaching strategies, resources, and technologies to engage students and facilitate their academic, social, and emotional growth.
- Assess student progress regularly through formal and informal measures and adjust instruction accordingly to ensure continuous improvement.
- Provide support and accommodations to promote access to the general education curriculum for students with disabilities while fostering independence and self-advocacy skills.
- Foster a positive and inclusive classroom environment where all students feel valued, respected, and supported.
- Collaborate with general education teachers, support staff, and other professionals to coordinate services and ensure seamless integration of special education supports.
- Communicate effectively with parents/guardians, colleagues, and stakeholders to provide updates on student progress, discuss concerns, and facilitate partnerships in support of student success.
- Participate in professional development opportunities to enhance knowledge and skills in special education best practices, instructional strategies, and relevant policies and regulations.
Qualifications
Qualifications/Minimum Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in Special Education.
- Valid state teaching license/certification in Special Education (LBS1).
- Experience working with elementary and/or junior high school students with diverse learning needs, including but not limited to learning disabilities, emotional/behavioral disorders, autism spectrum disorders, and intellectual disabilities.
- Knowledge of special education laws, regulations, and best practices, including the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA).
- Strong interpersonal, communication, and collaboration skills.
- Patience, empathy, and a genuine commitment to working with students with special needs.
- Ability to adapt and problem-solve in a dynamic educational environment.
- Commitment to equity, diversity, and inclusion in education.

Selection Procedure: It is not necessary that you contact the District #90 administrators to request an interview. The following procedure will be followed:
- Applications will be reviewed.
- Based upon the assessment of the application, the most promising candidates will be contacted for a personal interview.
- Following the interview process, a written recommendation will be prepared supporting the employment decision.
- The recommendation for employment will be presented by the Superintendent to the Board of Education for consideration and action.
- Those candidates who were interviewed will be notified of the Board's decision.
