Duties
DUTIES AND PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
Duties may include, but are not limited to the following:
- Be "student centered" and shall work toward Excellence in Education for Every Student Everyday.
- Evaluate teaching staff and participate in "walk-through" visits as assigned.
- Evaluate support staff as assigned.
- Evaluate SPED paraprofessionals as assigned.
- Assist superintendent, principal and Director of SPED in recruitment and staffing of SPED personnel.
- Perform student supervision for Extended School Year (ESY) summer school, and academic, athletic, and extracurricular events as assigned. Designs all programming, themes, and oversees all purchases and planning.
- Participate in the review of the Student Handbook and district policies, and shall make suggestions to add, delete and/or modify policies and procedures as needed.
- Remain current and informed regarding special education rules and regulations and bring recommendations to the administrative team regarding any changes needed to meet state and/or federal mandates.
- Assist in the coordination of all special education programs in the district.
- Perform established procedures for recordkeeping and coordinate placement of eligible students in special education classes from admission to dismissal.
- Assist with the implementation of special education curriculum and program planning, and pre-service and in-service training for teachers and related service staff of the program.
- Keep informed of all legal requirements governing special education.
- Assist in the development of required and needed programs for mentally and physically handicapped students through long-term planning.
- Assist in the evaluation, on an on-going basis, of programs, curriculum, and individual students’ needs and achievements and make recommendations for changes and additions as needed.
- Assist in the oversight and implementation of the IEP process and 504 plans.
- Assist in the coordination and implementation of referrals, case study evaluations, and service delivery for private school students residing in District 203.
- Assist in the coordination and monitor services of speech therapists, social workers, psychologist, and personnel contracted by District 203.
- Assist in the preparation of all federal, state and local reports on special education programs.
- Assist in identifying research relating to problems in the education of students with disabilities.
- Consult with special education teachers and with parents of students enrolled in the program.
- Assist in planning for physical facilities in establishing building eligibility, and make recommendations in design, furnishings, and equipment.
- Assist in the development of procedures for referral, securing medical reports, psychological examinations, and placement.
- Engage in continuing education and professional development activities in order to stay informed about the most recent issues pertinent to the field.
- Assist with the development of sections of the budget relating to special education and the management of the accounts.
- Assists in the planning, developing, and implementing of individual student behavior plans.
- Coordinates and assists with the transition of feeder school students to District 203.
- Oversee the operations, staff, and students of the SOAR program.
- Serves as the homebound instruction coordinator for District 203.
- Primary trainer and conducts all training for District 203 in CPE.in CPI training.
- Handles all the ACCESS testing for ESL along with the Counseling Department.
- Performs other duties as assigned by the Superintendent, Principal, Director of Special Education, and/or Board of Education.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Salary/Benefits
SALARY RANGE:
$86,000-$100,000
This position is eligible for medical/dental/vision/life insurance, HSA, EAP services, paid time-off, tuition reimbursement, TRS (Teacher Retirement System), and 401(k).
