Special Education Coach

Duties

Position Summary
The Special Education Coach supports teachers and staff in implementing high-quality special education instruction, compliance practices, and inclusive supports for students with disabilities. This role focuses on building staff capacity through coaching, modeling, and collaboration. The coach partners with general and special education teachers, paraprofessionals, and administrators to ensure effective instructional practices, IEP implementation, and data-driven decision-making.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Provide ongoing, job-embedded coaching to special education and general education teachers on evidence-based instructional and behavioral practices.
  2. Support development, implementation, and monitoring of IEPs, including progress-monitoring tools and documentation accuracy.
  3. Model and co-teach lessons that integrate accommodations, modifications, and differentiation strategies.
  4. Facilitate professional learning communities (PLCs) for special education staff focused on instructional improvement and compliance.
  5. Collaborate with building teams to problem-solve individual student needs and support MTSS interventions.
  6. Assist teachers in interpreting student data and using it to drive instructional adjustments.
  7. Serve as a resource on best practices for inclusion, behavior intervention, and specialized instruction.
  8. Support new special education teachers through mentoring and onboarding.
  9. Stay current on IDEA, Section 504, and state regulations; share updates with staff.

Qualifications

Qualifications

  1. Valid Illinois Professional Educator License with LBS 1 or comparable endorsement.
  2. Minimum of five years of successful experience as a special education teacher or related service provider.
  3. Deep knowledge of instructional strategies for diverse learners and compliance requirements.
  4. Strong interpersonal, communication, and facilitation skills.

Experience providing adult learning or coaching preferred.

1.  Applications will be reviewed.

2. Based upon the assessment of the application, the most promising candidates will be contacted for a personal interview.

3. Following the interview process, a written recommendation will be prepared supporting the employment decision.

4. The recommendation for employment will be presented by the Superintendent to the Board of Education for consideration and action.

5. Those Candidates who were interviewed will be notified of the Board's decision.
