Duties

Curriculum, Instruction & Assessment Leadership
1.    Provides district-wide leadership and vision for curriculum, instruction, and assessment aligned to district priorities and state standards.
2.    Oversees the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of standards-aligned curriculum and instructional materials across all grade levels.
3.    Leads the selection, implementation, and evaluation of high-quality instructional materials and assessments.
4.    Develops and maintains a coherent district assessment system, including an aligned assessment calendar that supports instruction and minimizes over-assessment.
5.    Ensures curriculum documents, scope and sequences, pacing guides, and instructional resources are current, aligned, and accessible.
6.    Applies research-based practices and student data to improve instructional quality, sequencing, and learning outcomes.


Data, Accountability & Continuous Improvement
7.    Analyzes student achievement and assessment data to identify trends, gaps, and high-leverage instructional action steps.
8.    Coaches and supports building leaders in facilitating effective data conversations to improve student outcomes and Summative Designation metrics.
9.    Assists principals in developing and implementing strategies to address instructional gaps and student learning needs.
10.    Monitors instructional program effectiveness and recommends adjustments based on data, research, and stakeholder feedback.
11.    Reports instructional progress, challenges, and outcomes to the Superintendent as appropriate.


Professional Learning & Leadership Development
12.    Designs, coordinates, and oversees district-wide professional development aligned to instructional priorities and educator needs.
13.    Builds instructional leadership capacity among principals, assistant principals, and instructional coaches.
14.    Supports building leaders with tools and resources to strengthen lesson planning, assessment practices, and instructional supports.
15.    Collaborates with school leaders to ensure professional learning translates into improved classroom practice.


Collaboration, Communication & Support
16.    Works collaboratively with building administrators, instructional staff, and district stakeholders to advance district goals.
17.    Communicates instructional initiatives, expectations, and timelines clearly and consistently.
18.    Serves as an instructional resource to the Superintendent, Board of Education, administrators, and staff.
19.    Promotes effective integration of instructional technology to enhance teaching and learning.
20.    Supports district and school improvement planning and implementation efforts.


Compliance & Administrative Responsibilities
21.    Ensures compliance with Board policies, district procedures, and all applicable state and federal regulations related to curriculum and instruction.
22.    Ensures instructional initiatives are implemented within established budget parameters.
23.    Maintains accurate records, reports, and documentation related to instructional programs.
24.    Performs other duties as assigned by the Superintendent of Schools.

Qualifications

•    State of Illinois fingerprinting and background check in compliance with state code and district policy requirements. A fingerprint-based criminal history records check and a check of the Statewide Sex Offender Database and Violent Offender Against Youth Database (when available) will be performed on the successful candidate as required by State law. Each newly hired employee must complete an Immigration and Naturalization Service Form as required by federal law. The District retains the right to discharge any employee whose criminal background investigation reveals a conviction for committing or attempting to commit any of the offenses outlined in Section 5/21-23a of The School Code or who falsifies or omits facts from employment materials.
•    Must hold a valid Illinois Professional Educator License (PEL) with an Administrative Endorsement.
•    Master's degree in Curriculum and Instruction, Educational Leadership, or a related education field required.
•    Minimum of five (5) years of successful teaching experience required.
•    Minimum of five (5) years of instructional or administrative leadership experience preferred.
•    Demonstrated experience leading curriculum, instruction, assessment, and professional learning initiatives.
•    Strong understanding of Illinois Learning Standards, assessment systems, and state accountability requirements.
•    Experience supervising and supporting instructional leaders and staff.
•    Strong organizational, analytical, communication, and project-management skills.
•    Ability to collaborate effectively with administrators, teachers, families, and community stakeholders.
•    Ability to exercise sound judgment, maintain confidentiality, and manage complex initiatives with professionalism.

Salary/Benefits

The successful candidate will receive an attractive compensation package based upon experience and highly competitive within the DuPage and West Cook area, base salary range of $100,000 - $130,000 depending on experience.  100% of Health insurance and TRS will be included in the compensation.

The Director of Teaching and Learning is a district-level instructional leader responsible for providing vision, leadership, and oversight for curriculum, instruction, assessment, and professional learning across the district. This position ensures that instructional systems are coherent, aligned, and effective in supporting student learning, growth, and achievement.
The Director collaborates closely with the Superintendent, building administrators, and instructional staff to develop, implement, and evaluate high-quality instructional programs aligned with district goals and state standards. The role emphasizes instructional coherence, leadership capacity-building, data-informed decision-making, and continuous improvement while ensuring responsible use of district resources.
