Director of Student Services APPLY ONLINE

Duties

  1. Provides district-wide leadership and vision for all Student Services programs, including Special Education, Section 504, social-emotional supports, health services, homeless services, and ELL programming.
  2. Oversees Exceptional Education staffings, including evaluations, re-evaluations, annual reviews, intakes, and change of placement meetings.
  3. Ensures full compliance with IDEA, Illinois School Code, ISBE requirements, and due process timelines.
  4. Supervises and evaluates Exceptional Education staff and related service providers.
  5. Coordinates and monitors all IEP and 504 processes, ensuring high-quality services and inclusive practices.
  6. Visits in-district and out-of-district placements to ensure instructional quality aligned to district priorities.
  7. Attends annual review and case study meetings as appropriate.
  8. Oversees effective transportation services for all out-of-district students in collaboration with vendors and district staff.
  9. Coordinates and participates in SASED and other cooperative meetings as required.

Program Management, Data & Compliance

  1. Monitors and evaluates district-wide interventions and MTSS/RTI implementation.
  2. Analyzes student data and reports quarterly to the Superintendent on program effectiveness, intervention outcomes, and resource utilization.
  3. Oversees Medicaid billing, documentation, and reimbursement for eligible student services.
  4. Ensures accurate maintenance and submission of all required student services records and state/federal reports.
  5. Identifies district strengths and areas for improvement related to student achievement and well-being.

Professional Learning & Collaboration

  1. Provides and coordinates professional development on best instructional and inclusive practices.
  2. Supports building administrators in creating inclusive learning environments for all students.
  3. Collaborates closely with principals, teachers, support staff, families, and outside agencies.
  4. Serves as liaison to community partners and external service providers.

Homeless (McKinney-Vento Liaison)

  1. Serves as the district's McKinney-Vento Homeless Liaison, ensuring compliance with federal requirements.
  2. Coordinates identification, enrollment, transportation, and support services for students experiencing homelessness.
  3. Communicates with families, building staff, and the district office regarding homeless student services and reimbursements.

ELL Coordination

  1. Oversees ELL identification, assessment, compliance, and state reporting.
  2. Coordinates ELL testing and ensures adherence to all ISBE and federal requirements.

Qualifications

• Must hold a valid Illinois Professional Educator License (PEL) with appropriate endorsements, including LBS1, School Social Work, School Psychology, School Counseling, or related student services field.

• Illinois General Administrative Endorsement (Type 75) and Director of Special Education Endorsement, or significant progress toward such endorsement (preferred).

• Master's Degree in Education, Student Services, Special Education, Educational Leadership, or related field required.

• Coursework in school administration or additional qualifications as deemed appropriate by the Board of Education.

• Demonstrated experience in student services leadership, including Special Education, Section 504, social-emotional learning, and multi-tiered systems of support (MTSS/RTI).

• Strong knowledge of IDEA, Illinois School Code, Section 504, McKinney-Vento, ELL compliance, and ISBE reporting requirements.

• Experience supervising and evaluating professional staff, including special education teachers and related service providers (OT, PT, Speech, Social Work, Psychology).

• Ability to relate positively to students, families, staff, and community stakeholders, including underserved and diverse populations.

• Ability to exercise sound judgment, maintain confidentiality, and manage sensitive situations with professionalism and discretion.

• Strong organizational, problem-solving, communication, and time-management skills.

• Ability to work independently, lead complex initiatives, and collaborate across departments.

Salary/Benefits

The successful candidate will receive an attractive compensation package based upon experience and highly competitive within the DuPage and West Cook area, base salary range of $100,000 - $130,000 depending on experience.  100% of Health insurance and TRS will be included in the compensation.  

Additional Notes

  1. Assists building principals with student scheduling, classroom assignments, and early childhood programming.
  2. Supports development and implementation of emergency safety and crisis response plans.
  3. Assists with parent-staff meetings related to student progress and program placement.
  4. Keeps the Superintendent informed of issues impacting student services and district operations.
  5. Promotes positive school climate, student safety, and effective discipline practices.
  6. Performs other duties as assigned by the Superintendent of Schools.
