Duties
- Provides district-wide leadership and vision for all Student Services programs, including Special Education, Section 504, social-emotional supports, health services, homeless services, and ELL programming.
- Oversees Exceptional Education staffings, including evaluations, re-evaluations, annual reviews, intakes, and change of placement meetings.
- Ensures full compliance with IDEA, Illinois School Code, ISBE requirements, and due process timelines.
- Supervises and evaluates Exceptional Education staff and related service providers.
- Coordinates and monitors all IEP and 504 processes, ensuring high-quality services and inclusive practices.
- Visits in-district and out-of-district placements to ensure instructional quality aligned to district priorities.
- Attends annual review and case study meetings as appropriate.
- Oversees effective transportation services for all out-of-district students in collaboration with vendors and district staff.
- Coordinates and participates in SASED and other cooperative meetings as required.
Program Management, Data & Compliance
- Monitors and evaluates district-wide interventions and MTSS/RTI implementation.
- Analyzes student data and reports quarterly to the Superintendent on program effectiveness, intervention outcomes, and resource utilization.
- Oversees Medicaid billing, documentation, and reimbursement for eligible student services.
- Ensures accurate maintenance and submission of all required student services records and state/federal reports.
- Identifies district strengths and areas for improvement related to student achievement and well-being.
Professional Learning & Collaboration
- Provides and coordinates professional development on best instructional and inclusive practices.
- Supports building administrators in creating inclusive learning environments for all students.
- Collaborates closely with principals, teachers, support staff, families, and outside agencies.
- Serves as liaison to community partners and external service providers.
Homeless (McKinney-Vento Liaison)
- Serves as the district's McKinney-Vento Homeless Liaison, ensuring compliance with federal requirements.
- Coordinates identification, enrollment, transportation, and support services for students experiencing homelessness.
- Communicates with families, building staff, and the district office regarding homeless student services and reimbursements.
ELL Coordination
- Oversees ELL identification, assessment, compliance, and state reporting.
- Coordinates ELL testing and ensures adherence to all ISBE and federal requirements.
Qualifications
• Must hold a valid Illinois Professional Educator License (PEL) with appropriate endorsements, including LBS1, School Social Work, School Psychology, School Counseling, or related student services field.
• Illinois General Administrative Endorsement (Type 75) and Director of Special Education Endorsement, or significant progress toward such endorsement (preferred).
• Master's Degree in Education, Student Services, Special Education, Educational Leadership, or related field required.
• Coursework in school administration or additional qualifications as deemed appropriate by the Board of Education.
• Demonstrated experience in student services leadership, including Special Education, Section 504, social-emotional learning, and multi-tiered systems of support (MTSS/RTI).
• Strong knowledge of IDEA, Illinois School Code, Section 504, McKinney-Vento, ELL compliance, and ISBE reporting requirements.
• Experience supervising and evaluating professional staff, including special education teachers and related service providers (OT, PT, Speech, Social Work, Psychology).
• Ability to relate positively to students, families, staff, and community stakeholders, including underserved and diverse populations.
• Ability to exercise sound judgment, maintain confidentiality, and manage sensitive situations with professionalism and discretion.
• Strong organizational, problem-solving, communication, and time-management skills.
• Ability to work independently, lead complex initiatives, and collaborate across departments.
Salary/Benefits
The successful candidate will receive an attractive compensation package based upon experience and highly competitive within the DuPage and West Cook area, base salary range of $100,000 - $130,000 depending on experience. 100% of Health insurance and TRS will be included in the compensation.
Additional Notes
- Assists building principals with student scheduling, classroom assignments, and early childhood programming.
- Supports development and implementation of emergency safety and crisis response plans.
- Assists with parent-staff meetings related to student progress and program placement.
- Keeps the Superintendent informed of issues impacting student services and district operations.
- Promotes positive school climate, student safety, and effective discipline practices.
- Performs other duties as assigned by the Superintendent of Schools.
