Special Education Administrator - 10 Months

Duties

The Special Education Administrator will play a pivotal leadership role in overseeing, developing, and implementing high-quality special education programs and services for students with disabilities across the district. This position is responsible for ensuring compliance with all federal, state, and local regulations pertaining to special education, while also promoting an inclusive and equitable educational environment for all learners. The ideal candidate will be a leader with a deep understanding of special education law, best practices in instruction and intervention, and a commitment to student success.

DUTIES:

  • Establish, modify, and direct implementation of special education policies and programs for the District in coordination with the Director of Special Education and other special education administrators.
  • Participate on MTSS District team
  • Oversee the development and review of Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) to ensure legal sufficiency and educational appropriateness.
  • Provide support to priority schools in need of behavioral or academic support within special education programs and general education settings.
  • Direct observation of students, follow up consultation with staff, and assistance with progress monitoring tools.
  • Provide direction to building principals on how to handle behavioral situations with students and guidance on consequences when needed
  • Provide direction to Administrators and Staff when seeking a change in placement to a more restrictive setting due to behavioral and/or academic needs.
  • Supervise, evaluate, and provide professional development to special education teachers, related service providers, and support staff.
  • Provide oversight, direction, and guidance to staff on writing and implementing individualized IEPs.
  • Collaborate effectively with building principals, general education staff, parents, and community agencies to ensure coordinated services for students.
  • Provide direction to principals and staff on proper completion of time out and restraint requirements for ISBE.
  • Serve as the IEP Local Education Administrator as needed.
  • Provide administrative support and technical assistance to assigned schools for administrators, learning behavior specialists, general educators and school teams in the areas of curriculum development, instructional techniques, behavior management, and effective educational practices in order to adhere to IDEA regulations.
  • Monitor special education programs and related services to ensure compliance with federal and state regulations and local district policies and procedures.
  • Coordinate Task Forces as assigned by the Director of Special Education
  • Supervision of appointed special education building teams.
  • Supervise, evaluate, recruit, interview for employment, and recommend for hire, promotion, transfer, or discharge of special education teachers and related service staff as applicable.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned by the Director of Special Education.

Qualifications

  1. Minimum 5 years successful experience as a special educator

2. Valid Professional Educator License with Endorsement in Administration or Director of Special Education
3.. Such alternatives within the guidelines of the Illinois State Board of Education and acceptable to the Board of Education of McLean County Unit District No. 5
4. Professional image, actions, communications and working relationships are required at all times.
5. Able to perform job duties at assigned work location on a regular and consistent basis

Salary/Benefits

Fully Board Paid Medical, Dental, and Vision available

Salary Range: $70,000 - $110,000
