Assistant Principal for Special Programs and Services

Duties

Responsibilities:

Instructional Leadership & Capacity Building

  • Partner with the Assistant Principal of Teaching & Learning and Department Administrators for Multilingual and Special Education to build classroom teacher capacity for effective instruction of Multilingual Learners and students with IEPs.
  • Provide building-level leadership and oversight for the Multilingual Learner and Special Education departments.
  • Serve on the building leadership team.

Program Oversight, Alignment & Compliance

  • Collaborate with the Assistant Director of Secondary Special Education and Director of Multilingual Learners for program oversight and procedural alignment.
  • Collaborate with the IEP Facilitator to address IEP compliance concerns through staff follow-up and support.
  • Uphold Board of Education and central office policies and procedures.

Student Support, Placement & Intervention

  • Participate in collaborative review of student information for Multilingual Learners and students with IEPs considered for alternative placements to inform team discussion and ensure appropriate consideration of supports.
  • Oversight of programming placements for newly registered Multilingual Learners and special education students.
  • Coordinate assessment accommodations for special education students.
  • Oversee related services, including counseling, social work, and psychology, to ensure holistic student support.
  • Participate in crisis response and student discipline processes, ensuring interventions are restorative and aligned with student needs.
  • Oversight and support of transportation requests for Special Education

Staffing, Supervision & Operations

  • Organize and oversee paraprofessional assignments.
  • Interview applicants and make hiring recommendations in collaboration with the building principal.
  • Oversee the budget of assigned staffing and programming to support program needs in alignment with district initiatives.
  • Supervise special events held to recognize student achievement and supervise school-sponsored activities, functions, and athletic events.

General

  • Other duties as assigned.

 

Qualifications

Professional Educator License with General Administrative (Type 75) or Principal endorsement required

Salary/Benefits

Hiring range: $97,000-$123,695

Salary range: $97,000-$137,000
