Behavior Interventionist

Duties

  • Behavior Intervention: Implement behavior intervention strategies and techniques to address disruptive behavior, promote positive behavior, and prevent the escalation of crisis situations.

  • Crisis Management: Monitor student behavior and intervene promptly when students pose a danger to themselves or others. Utilize crisis intervention techniques and personal judgment to manage problem situations effectively and ensure the safety of all individuals involved.

  • Observation and Documentation: Conduct ongoing observation of student behavior and document incidents, interventions, and outcomes accurately and comprehensively. Maintain detailed records of behavioral incidents, interventions, and progress to inform decision-making and support individualized student plans.

  • Collaboration: Collaborate with teachers, administrators, and support staff to develop and implement behavior support plans tailored to students' unique needs. Participate in multidisciplinary team meetings to discuss student progress, concerns, and strategies for intervention and support.

  • Professional Development: Engage in ongoing professional development to enhance knowledge and skills in behavior management, crisis intervention, and special education practices. Stay informed about current research, best practices, and legal requirements related to behavior intervention and special education.

Qualifications

  1. Professional License per the State of Illinois.

  2. Bachelor's degree in Education, Psychology, Social Work, Counseling, or a related field.

  3. Background in Special Education and/or Social Work is a plus.

  4. Previous experience working with intellectually and developmentally disabled or at-risk students preferred.

  5. Knowledge of behavior intervention strategies, crisis management techniques, and special education principles.

  6. Ability to remain calm under pressure and exercise sound judgment in crisis situations.

  7. Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with colleagues, students, and families.
