Duties
Purpose:
To provide a positive, enthusiastic, nurturing, and caring educator to serve as a special education teacher in a self-contained structured teaching classroom. The purpose of the structured program is to teach elementary students with autism spectrum disorders or a developmental delay, providing a program and instruction to promote cognitive; academic; communication and language; behavioral and social; and physical development.
Responsibilities:
- This K-5 self-contained program serves students whose primary disability is autism or developmental delay.
- Students in this program require special education services for more than 60% of their school day and specific instructional methods for students with autism.
- The program includes a high degree of structure, visual support, sensory integration, discrete trial format and PECS (Picture Exchange Communication System).
- Diagnose and program instruction for individual learners
- Provide instruction to individuals and groups
- Plan, administer, and interpret student evaluations
- Prepare written reports as required
- Develop and maintain positive working relationships with parents and guardians
- Work closely with other members of the program staff
- Be willing to attend training during the summer months
Qualifications
Must have a valid Illinois Education License with an LBSI endorsement. ESL and/or Bilingual endorsement preferred.
Salary/Benefits
Salary Range $51,053 - $63,290. Based on experience and education level.
