JOB SUMMARY:
Full time position for Early Childhood classroom (3-5). To create a flexible kindergarten program and kindergarten environment favorable to learning and personal growth; to establish effective rapport with students; to motivate students to develop skills, attitudes, and knowledge needed to provide a good foundation for further participation in the total school program, in accordance with each student’s ability; and to establish good relationships with parents and with other staff members.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: To excel in this role, the individual must meet the following key responsibilities:
- Plans, implements, and supervises developmentally appropriate curriculum for an Early Childhood
- Plans and provides support for educational assistants.
- Maintains a safe and pleasing classroom environment.
- Participates as a multi-disciplinary team member to complete educational assessments for children and assists in determining eligibility for special ed.
- Case-manages assigned children by completing forms and developing and implementing the Individualized Education Program (IEP).
- Directs individual, small, and whole group instruction.
- Regularly monitors educational progress and maintain/complete records and reports as required.
- Provides an educational environment where instruction is individualized for each student and includes supports and modifications that facilitate learning.
- Collaborates with team members when appropriate.
- Works in partnership with families.
- Establishes and maintains standards of pupil behavior needed to provide an orderly, productive classroom environment.
- Identifies pupil needs and cooperates with other professional staff members in assessing and helping students solve health, attitude, and learning problems.
- Communicates with parents and school counselors on pupil progress.
- Supervises students in out-of-classroom activities during the assigned workday.
- Works with students and other classroom teachers in such activities as preparing material for the school newspaper or yearbook, assisting with PTA programs, or coordinating entries in essay contests.
- Administers group-standardized tests in accordance with the district testing program.
- Participates in curriculum and other developmental programs.
- Participates in faculty committees and the sponsorship of student activities.
- Maintains professional competence through in-service education activities provided by the district and in self-selected professional growth activities.
ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES: Additional tasks as assigned.
PHYSICAL ACTIVITY: The role requires frequent walking and standing.
WORK ENVIRONMENT: The work environment is generally stable, with minimal exposure to unusual temperatures, noise, or hazards. The position requires extended and non-traditional hours to fulfill job duties, as well as participation in organization-sponsored events and meetings.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Valid Illinois Professional Educator License (PEL) with:
- Early Childhood Education Endorsement (Birth – 3)
- ESL Endorsement preferred
- Experience working with at risk and special education students ages 3-5 preferred
LICENSES/CREDENTIAL: Valid Illinois Teacher's License (PEL).
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: All terms of employment are outlined by the collective bargaining agreement with the Steger Education Association.
