Duties

*Performs casework service with individual students to correct those personal, social, or emotional
maladjustments related to their educational and social progress.
*Coordinates or serves as a member of diagnostic teams and educational planning and placement
committees and provides biological, psychological, and sociological assessment information related to
planning for children with adjustment problems.
* Consults and collaborates with other school personnel in gathering and giving information on a case and
in establishing and planning for respective roles in the modification of the student’s behavior.
* Performs casework services with parents as an integral part of the task of helping students, to increase
the parents’ understanding, their constructive participation in resolving their child’s problems and their
knowledge and use of appropriate resources available.
* Make home visits for the purpose of gathering helpful information on a student’s background.
* Assists students directly toward adjustment to school.
* Supervises students and student interns as assigned.

Perform other duties as assigned

Qualifications

The individual employed for this position must hold the proper educational credentials, certifications, and
experiences to serve as Social Worker for Jacksonville School District #117 or such alternatives as the Board of
Education may find appropriate and acceptable. The minimum requirements include the following:
Education & Certification Requirements

Master’s degree from a graduate school of social work program meeting State of Illinois academic and
supervised practicum experience requirements.

Holds a License from Illinois State Board in Social Work.

Knowledge & Skills
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical
journals, or governmental regulations.

Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedures.

Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups and individuals.

Ability to work with mathematical concepts and apply concepts to practical solutions.

Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.

Ability to interpret technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with abstract and
concrete variables.

Ability to apply knowledge of current research and theory in instructional program.

Ability to plan and implement lessons based on needs and abilities of students to whom assigned.

Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, peers, parents and
community.

Ability to communicate clearly and concisely both orally and in writing.

Ability to perform all duties with the awareness of all District requirements and Board of Education
policies.
