Duties

Purpose:

To provide a positive, enthusiastic, nurturing, and caring educator to serve as a special education teacher in a self-contained educational life skills classroom.  Candidates must possess a willingness to work towards the development of a continuum of special education programming.


Responsibilities: 

  • This self-contained program serves students whose disabilities include moderate to severe cognitive impairments. 
  • Candidate should have at least 3 years experience in working with students with a range of disabilities
  • Understands basic classroom management theories and methods; with strategies for individual behavior management, crisis prevention, intervention, de-escalation techniques, and the balance between classroom management with academic teaching strategies. 
  • This program utilizes use of community resources and functional skills curriculum to address the needs of the students.
  • Use various teaching methods to promote learning including intensive individualized instruction, problem-solving assignments, and small-group work.
  • A full complement of related service and individualized mainstreaming or integration opportunities are available as recommended by the IEP team.
  • Provide physical care as needed: diaper, toilet, feed, reinforce adaptive PE/motor activities per instructions from therapist(s); assist, as needed, with independent living skills; employee may have to use physical ability to lift students and perform other manipulations
  • Creates a classroom culture which is a cognitively busy place, characterized by a shared belief in the importance of learning; establishes high expectations and personal achievement.
  • Understands the aspects of schedule, routines, and transitions that promote development and learning.
  • Demonstrates ways in which technology can assist with creating and managing the learning environment, incorporating the verbal and visual redirection and classroom expectations.
  • Provides supervision of paraprofessional educators.

 

 

Qualifications

  • Professional Educator License - LBS-1, Psychologist, or Social Worker
  • At least 3 years working in school districts
  • Early Childhood through Middle School Experience preferred
  • Board Certified Behavior Analyst

Salary/Benefits

Annualized Salary Range $51,053 - $63,290, Based on experience and education level.
