Duties
ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS: To perform this job successfully an individual must be able to execute each requirement satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability needed for the position.
- Assist administrators in the supervision of students in the buildings and school grounds during the school day
- Assist the administration with the supervision of students in the lunchroom, and during athletic events, dances, concerts, Saturday school, arrivals, departures, and other school events which may occur after normal school hours.
- Assist administration in deterring physical conflicts between students, resolving verbal conflicts, and similar situations.
- Participate in Restorative Training
- Implement restorative strategies with students
- Ability to work harmoniously with others and to communicate effectively (both orally and in writing) with students, parents, and teachers
- Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions
- Ability to maintain confidentiality
- Ability to communicate with appropriate student age group requiring the use of empathetic disciplinary approaches
- Ability to deal appropriately and effectively with guests on campus
- Ability to supervise students in the school building and on the grounds during the school day and at school sponsored activities.
- Ability to anticipate and resolve student conflicts.
- Ability to promote safe conditions throughout the campus and report unsafe conditions to the school administration.
- Attend staff meetings and participate in in-service training programs as requested
- Maintain a high level of ethical behavior and confidentiality when dealing with student information
- Supervise students and monitor non-classroom area such as: hallways, bus stops, parking lots, cafeteria, restrooms and other areas where students gather.
- Remind students of behavioral expectations.
- Support the administration in the implementation of district and school expectations and policies. This includes, but is not limited to: enforcing dress code, ID Compliance, pass privileges, school assemblies, etc.
- Anticipates and intervenes to prevent situations that may endanger students’ welfare or safety.
- Must wear sturdy (non-slip) rubber sole shoes at all times,
- Perform other duties as assigned
Qualifications
EMPLOYMENT STANDARDS:
Knowledge of:
- Age-appropriate methods of motivating students
- Proper use of English, spelling and grammar
- Basic record keeping
- Proper radio use
- De-escalation techniques
Ability to:
- Maintain a firm but patient and courteous attitude toward students
- Learn Prairie Hills ESD #144 policies related to conduct, safety, and welfare of students
- Work independently and make decisions within established guidelines
- Remain calm in stressful situations
- Pass a satisfactory background check
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
A. Moderate degree of physical stamina
B. Frequent standing, walking, bending
D. Ability to monitor and/or run to various locations within the school buildings or grounds
E. Ability to work in inclement weather for extended periods of time
