POSITION DESCRIPTION TITLE: Coordinator of Student Support Services

REPORTS TO: Director of Student Support Services

FLSA STATUS: Administrative

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: As outlined in contract for services

SALARY: Commensurate with Education and Experience

QUALIFICATIONS

1. Must possess or be eligible to meet and maintain proper licensure as established by state law and the Illinois State Board of Education.

2. Must be a Qualified Teacher Evaluator.

3. Must possess administrative experience.

          i. Type 73 Guidance, TYPE 75 Administrative: Required Type 09 Special Education Preferred This position will work with                   special education, counselors, and the entire student support services term.

4. Has demonstrated the leadership qualities and personal characteristics necessary for working effectively with students, teachers and parents.

5. Must be able to interpret policy, procedures and data.

6. Must possess strong organizational, communication (written and oral), public relations and interpersonal skills.

7. Must meet any additional qualifications set by the District.

POLICY RESPONSIBILITY: Recommends policies and policy changes relative to assigned responsibilities and carries out District policies as well as State and Federal regulations related to student support services

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

The Student Support Services Coordinator will: Design, coordinate implementation and monitor a comprehensive guidance program for all students; monitor the implementation of school guidance programs and work collaboratively with the school counseling team to make recommendations to effectively meet the needs of students. The ideal candidate must possess effective communication skills, a strong background in student support services and have the ability to confer with staff to provide feedback for essential program improvements. Identifying and coordinating a comprehensive and innovative professional development program, in-service activities and workshops is essential to success in this role.

A. Essential Functions Authority/ Responsibility: Identify, recommend, implement, supervise, and evaluate initiatives in curriculum, staff development and instructional improvement assessment. * Other duties as assigned

Activities

1. Monitors compliance with State and Federal regulations for students with disabilities across the district.

2. Collaborates with building administrators and staff to assess building level needs in special education and other student support programs.

3. Coordinates provisions of necessary related services to special education students.

4. Supports the coordination of 504 planning, ESL services, homeless services, home schooling, reimbursement, and homebound instruction.

5. Assists staff and building administrators in effective problem and solution-finding for students with challenging needs.

6. Oversees the provision of related services including speech Pathology, occupational therapy, physical therapy, day treatment social workers and nursing as required by IEPS.

7. Supervises and evaluates job performance for staff

8. Advises the Director on the department's budgetary needs.

9. Provides leadership in the development, direction, and coordination of alternative programs, home instructions, counseling, psychological services, pupil personnel services and provides input to the evaluation of these programs.

10. Collects, analyzes and interprets data and performance measures for dissemination to improve the delivery of student services.

11. Assists principals and pupil personnel staff with the development of student academic and behavioral plans, programs, assessments, and analysis of data and recommends programs improvements.

12. Performs other duties as may be assigned by the Director of Student Support Services.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

13. Through knowledge of the Illinois State Board of Education and Rich Township SD 227 policies, regulations, and procedures; the student services bylaw as well as federal and state legislation relating to the provision of student services.

14. Knowledge of current trends and issues related to interagency services.

15. Ability to plan, administer, and coordinate a district-wide student support services program.

16. Ability to collect, analyze and interpret data relative to student learning and adjustment problems.

17. Excellent skills in oral and written communication and interpersonal skills and organizational skills.

18. Serves as system liaison for juvenile justice services and other related student support service programs.

19. Develop, monitor and evaluate performance measures.

20. Able to represent Company to others.

21. Meets regularly with the Director of Student Support Services to effectively communicate the implementation of practices as guided by local, state, and federal guidelines.

B. Master Schedule Authority/Responsibility: Participate in the building implementation of the master schedule.

Activity

1. Development of collaborative conflict solution for the master schedule.

2. Develop and recommend a schedule for specific departments to include, but not limited to the special education department.

C. Professional Development Authority/Responsibility: Coordinates professional growth activities for certified staff The Student Support Services Coordinator leads the school team to accomplish the Rich Township SD 227 goals and objectives while also guiding the development and implementation of MTSS models and frameworks. The Student Support Services Coordinator will

Activities

1. Assists in the coordination, development and implementation of programs for the campus based in-service, institutes and long term professional development.

2. Participates with the School Improvement Team to facilitate, develop and review strategies that support strategic initiatives.

3. Plans specific professional development to support counselors and culture and climate

4. Participates in professional growth activities as well as leads activities.

5. Assist in the of the program design for MTSS.

i. will implement the MTSS model of tired intervention processes and procedures across the school community, in collaboration with school leadership.

ii. Designs MTSS professional development for school staff that aligns with school needs and grant outcomes, in collaboration with school leadership.

iii. Collaborate with the MTSS Specialist and behavior interventionist to ensure MTSS alignment across schools.

iv. Monitors the MTSS process to ensure compliance to District procedures.

D. Personnel Authority/Responsibility: Assists in the supervision and evaluation of staff.

Activities

1. Assists in employment of staff.

2. Assists in supervision and evaluation of staff.

3. Performs formative and summative evaluations of staff.

4. Assists in remediation of staff when appropriate.

E. Budget Authority/Responsibility: Assists in developing and implementing the budget and developing and implementing district curriculum budget.

1. Monitor budget compliance.

2. Coordinate ordering of supplies.

3. Recommend budget expenditures for staff development

4. Recommend budget expenditures for curriculum development.

School climate: The Student Support Services Coordinator leads, provides oversight, support and professional development to staff, addressing classroom management and other school culture and climate topics. The Director of School Climate and Culture is responsible for fostering partnerships and collaboration with families, community members and organizations.

Authority/Responsibility: Assists in maintaining a positive learning environ.

? Build restorative mindsets and capacity for school staff, students, and community stakeholders, to implement the following Restorative Practices:

? Restorative responses

? Restorative conversations

? Talking circles

? Peace circles

? Peer conference

? Re-entry circles

? Restorative conferences

? Ensure consistent implementation of research-based social emotional learning (SEL) and positive behavior interventions aligned within a multi-tiered intervention framework

? Lead the data collection and assessment process to evaluate effectiveness of school climate initiatives including data and assessments related to service coordination, school-wide implementation of climate initiatives, stakeholder surveys

? Manage and coach Culture and Climate Team including Deans

? Providing individual behavioral climate coaching to identified teachers

? Facilitate various forms of professional development, including the following:

? Thought-partnering, collaborative reflection, and planning

? Modeling, co-facilitating, and observing Restorative Practices and SEL implementation

? Small-group and whole-staff training and workshops

? Consultation to school leadership and school teams on the development and implementation of systems and structures for Restorative Practices and other school culture and climate topics

? Participate in student disciplinary meetings and coordinate peer mediation and other restorative practices/responses to student disciplinary concerns when appropriate ? Provide support in crisis interventions including school-wide and individual student situations, including conducting crisis assessments, positive support plans, parental notification and other reporting and notifications as required by law

? Collaborate with the Director of Student Support Services to oversee the referral of students requiring social-emotional and behavior support and social services

? Engage school community and caregivers in the educational process by providing frequent opportunities to discuss student growth and needs

? Identify and cultivate strategic partnerships with corporations, civic groups, faith institutions, university groups and other community groups to secure volunteers and resources to meet the campus’ goals and realize its vision

? Perform related duties as assigned

Qualifications

Experience working at the district level is preferred.
Candidate must have experience in Student Services focusing on Special Education and/or Counseling.

Type 73 or Type 10 and Type 75 required
