Duties
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
- create IEPs that are tailored to each student's unique strengths and areas of need.
- Adapt curriculum to meet diverse learning staples and ensure access to the general education curriculum where appropriate
- Conduct functional behavior assessments and design evidence-based BIPs to reduce challenging behaviors and promote positive behavior intervention supports
- Utilize strategies such as PBIS, restorative practices, trauma-informed approaches, de-escalation strategies and more
- Maintain a calm and structured environment that minimizes risk and maximizes student safety.
- Facilitates learning and the development of skills in a variety of subjects; including reading, language arts, mathematics, social studies, science, art, physical education, health, music, technology and or exploratory classes.
- Facilitates learning of specific courses of study and the development of good civic participation as mandated by state law and by policies of the school district.
- Develops and implements lesson plans, utilizing instructional materials including the integration of technology, to provide differentiated learning experiences to meet the needs of each student.
- Collaborates with team members to develop and implement differentiated lessons plans for all students’ success.
- Establishes and maintains positive student behavior within the classroom and school Environment.
- Evaluates and monitors student academic and social growth, and keeps appropriate records using formal and informal data collection, methods, or tools.
- Identifies student needs and collaborate with team members to assess and remediate student learning.
- Creates an engaging classroom environment for learning.
- Communicates classroom information and student progress with guardians through web pages, conferences and digital resources.
- Commit to personal professional growth through activities provided by the district, self-selected activities and those recommended by the supervising principal for competency advancement.
- Maintains required inventory records for all classroom materials.
- Supervises students during non academic activities within the school day.
- Administers individual and group assessments in accordance with the district and State Testing Program.
- Participates in school programs, faculty committees and student activities in accordance with terms of the current contract.
- Maintain appropriate IEP records
- Participate in and facilitate IEP / Goal Setting Meetings
- Identify students eligible for Sped Services
- Collaborate with colleagues regarding IEP and Goal Setting
- Perform other duties and assume responsibilities as may be assigned by the superintendent or designee and in accordance with terms stipulated in the current contract.
Qualifications
ISBE State Certification(s) with appropriate special education endorsements
Salary/Benefits
In accordance with the Professional Negotiation Agreement with the South Berwyn Education Association.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Ten month year.

The Special Education Behavioral program is dedicated to providing specialized instruction and behavioral interventions to students identified with emotional, behavioral, or other disabilities related to their behavior impacting their learning. The teacher in this role plays a crucial part in fostering a supportive, structured, and safe classroom environment where students can achieve their fullest academic, social, and emotional potential.
