Duties

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: 

  1. Coordinate the scheduling of all IEP meetings where eligibility decisions will be made, in conjunction with district staff. 
  2. Support the IEP team through the discussion of evaluation and student goal data to determine the effectiveness of current services and make recommendations for continuation, addition, or removal of pupil services.
  3. Serve as an instructional leader by modeling best practices, supporting curriculum implementation, and providing guidance to staff on effective instructional strategies.
  4. Collaborate effectively with staff, families, and the community for the purpose of planning, developing, implementing, maintaining, and evaluating educational services and/or programs.
  5. Supervise and evaluate LASEC staff, as assigned.
  6. Maintain a high level of knowledge regarding special education issues, changes in the laws and case law, and educational methods of educating students with disabilities, for the purpose of managing an excellent special education program. 
  7. Provide leadership for informing school-based teams of laws and regulations.
  8. Facilitate meetings/staffing’s in conjunction with district staff, based on the needs of the district. 
  9. Support districts to ensure that all meetings/staffing’s follow state and federal guidelines and all paperwork is properly completed and distributed.       
  10. Onboard and train member district special education personnel on the Computerized IEP Program. 
  11. Provide guidance in resolving issues related to placement, student progress, and related service provision in each district.
  12. Working with the LASEC leadership, contribute to developing and implementing programs and services that benefit the cooperative districts.
  13. Provide technical assistance to special education and related services personnel in conjunction with district staff and administration, based on the needs of the district. 
  14. Prepare for and lead meetings/staffings as LEA representative as assigned by the district administrators.
  15. Foster positive relationships within districts.
  16. Involve families in IEP meetings and proactively communicate processes and information in conjunction with district staff, so that families are provided all information needed to understand the IEP process.
  17. Facilitate problem-solving and conflict resolution relating to disputes about special education services or disagreements regarding the learning needs of individual students in conjunction with district staff.
  18. Assist district administrators in the recruitment and selection of qualified special education personnel, upon request, and assist with the orientation of new staff.
  19. Conduct and/or assist district administrators with personnel evaluations, upon request.
  20. Engage in leadership growth opportunities by participating in professional learning, mentoring programs, and district-led leadership initiatives to enhance instructional leadership skills.
  21. Serve on Leyden Area Special Education Cooperative, district, and community-based committees related to the supervisory role, upon request.
  22. Adhere to all policies and procedures of the Leyden Area Special Education Cooperative 
  23. Assume other duties as directed by partner district administration.
  24. Provide two-way communication between LASEC and member districts on topics pertinent to Special Education.
  25. Report incidents of suspected fraud or concerns about grossly inappropriate behavior to the Executive Director or Business Manager.
  26. Assumes and fulfills any other responsibilities as assigned by the Executive Director or designee.

Qualifications

In order to perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty and responsibility satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the qualifications, skills, physical demands, and work environment required.  Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions

  • Requires Professional Educator Licensure with endorsement as LBS1, school psychologist, school social worker, or speech pathologist, and a Master's in Educational Leadership (Principal endorsement or Director of Special Education endorsement).  Teacher Evaluator designation preferred, but not required.
  • Prior successful special education classroom and/or administrative experience
  • Meet and maintain the training requirements to be a licensed evaluator of teachers.
  • Bilingual skills preferred.
  • Must have a valid Illinois driver’s license and automobile insurance for school travel between school sites.

Salary/Benefits

  • Starting salary range $87,000 (connected to Education and Years of experience)
