Duties

Position Purpose 
Under the general supervision of the Director of Student Services, this position consists of teaching one morning session and one afternoon session each of preschool, through the 'Preschool For All' grant.

QUALIFICATIONS/CERTIFICATIONS:
-  
Professional Educator License (PEL) with Early Childhood Endorsement and Early Childhood Special Education approvals
-  English as a Second Language and/or Bilingual Endorsement (or coursework towards ESL endorsement)
-  Interest and/or experience working with at-risk and students with special needs.

Job Description
-  Demonstrate understanding of child development.
-  Coordinate, communicate with, and effectively lead preschool team members (two full-time paraprofessionals, multiple related service providers)
-  Plan and implement developmentally appropriate learning opportunities for 3-5 year old students.
-  Conduct large group, small group and individual learning experiences.
-  Differentiate instruction based on student needs and learning goals.
-  Prepare and maintain a high quality, safe, linguistically/culturally sensitive, and engaging learning environment. 
-  Preschool classroom environment will be monitored by the state periodically using the ECERS-3.
-  Utilize formal and informal assessment systems to collect student data, monitor progress and inform instructional decisions.
-  Engage in reflective practices to develop plans for student goals and improving classroom practices.
-  Participate in development and implementation of IEP goals; schedule and facilitate IEP meetings.
-  Develop partnerships with preschool families through daily communication, conferences and parent-child activities.
-  Continues to acquire professional knowledge and learn of current developments in the educational field by attending seminars, workshops or professional meetings.
-  Organizes and maintains a system for accurate and complete record-keeping and providing student information as required by district procedures, the PFA grant, and applicable laws.
-  Actively participate in Professional Learning Communities, school and program meetings and trainings.
-  Selects requests appropriate materials, books, and classroom supplies/equipment and maintains inventory records.

Additional Duties 
-  Performs other related tasks as assigned by the Principal and other central office administrators as designated by the Superintendent.

Equipment 
-  Uses standard office equipment such as personal computers, copy machines, and telephone. 

Skills, Knowledge, Abilities 
-  Knowledge of Special Education principles as well as proven methods of maximizing the educational experience of students with special needs. 
-  Knowledge of English Learner principles as well as proven methods of maximizing the educational experience of EL students. 
-  Knowledge of differentiated instruction based upon student learning styles. 
-  Knowledge of data information systems, data analysis and the formulation of action plans. 
-  Knowledge of applicable federal and state laws regarding education and students. 
-  Ability to use computer network system and software applications as needed. 
-  Ability to organize and coordinate work. 
-  Ability to communicate effectively with students and parents. 
-  Ability to engage in self-evaluation with regard to performance and professional growth. 
-  Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with others contacted in the course of work.  

Physical and Mental Demands, Work Hazards 
-  Works in standard office and school building environments. 

  

Qualifications

Education: 
-  Bachelors from an accredited college or university in education discipline applicable to teaching assignment
-  Preferred: Masters Degree in Special Education or Early Childhood Education

Experience: 
-  Successful prior preschool teaching experience preferred.
