Duties

RESPONSIBILITIES AND REQUIREMENTS:

  • Provide students with appropriate learning activities and experiences in AVIATION to help them fulfill their potential for intellectual, emotional, physical, and social growth. Enable students to develop competencies and skills to function successfully in society.
  • Develop and implement lesson plans that fulfill the requirements of district’s curriculum program and show written evidence of preparation as required. Prepare lessons that reflect accommodations for differences in individual student differences.
  • Accountable for all aspects of researching, developing, and teaching of flight/ground school curricula
  • Conduct safety classes as required
  • Collaborate with School Counselor(s), and the Director of Technology, and Director of Operations to prepare and provide both exploratory and specifically tailored career learning and field experiences as part of each student’s multi-year career pathway sequence
  • Make course-related recommendations regarding curriculum, budget, and implementation requirements to building administration, or as requested.
  • Collaborate with the school’s School Counselor personnel regarding matters of CTE pupil progress and ongoing individual student career planning.
  • Plan and use appropriate instructional and learning strategies, activities, materials, equipment, and technology that reflect understanding of the learning styles and needs of students assigned and present subject matter according to guidelines established by ISBE, board policies, and administrative regulations.
  • Conduct assessment of student learning styles and use results to plan instructional activities.
  • Work cooperatively with special education teachers to modify curricula as needed for special education students according to guidelines established in Individual Education Plans (IEP).
  • Work with other members of staff to determine instructional goals, objectives, and methods according to district requirements.
  • Conduct ongoing assessment of student achievement through formal and informal testing.
  • Be a positive role model for students; support mission of school district.
  • Create classroom environment conducive to learning and appropriate for the physical, social, and emotional development of students.
  • Manage student behavior in accordance with Student Code of Conduct and student handbook.
  • Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
  • Assist in selecting books, equipment, and other instructional materials.
  • Compile, maintain, and file all reports, records, and other documents required.
  • Establish and maintain a professional relationship and open communication with parents, students, colleagues, and community members.
  • Participate in staff development activities to improve job-related skills.
  • Comply with state, district, and school regulations and policies for classroom teachers.
  • Attend and participate in faculty meetings and serve on staff committees as required.
  • Maintain and update industry certifications as required by Illinois State Board of Education and Prairie Hills ESD #144
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications


Qualifications:

  • Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) certification(s) in primary area of training is a plus
  • Eligible to receive an ISBE Professional Education License (PEL) in Manufacturing, Engineering, Technology, and Trades (METT) (certificate must be in place prior to teaching) or
  • Eligible to receive ISBE Educator License with Stipulations (CIP(CTE)) license in Transportation, Distribution, and Logistics (license must be in place prior to teaching)
  • Minimum Bachelor’s Degree
  • Minimum 2,000 - 6,000 hours (3 years full-time) industry experience, e.g.
  • First-Aid Instructor Certification
  • CPR Instructor Certification
  • Prior teaching experience
  • Excellent planning, organization, written and verbal communication skills
  • High-level problem-solving skills
  • Computer literacy and familiarity with Microsoft Office Suite
  • Team and detail oriented

Job description for CTE Aviation Teacher
This is a junior high school teaching position in Aviation which is a Career and Technical Education (CTE) program. The Aviation CTE program is a series of prescribed courses for grades 6-8 that provides students with the knowledge and skills necessary to succeed in careers that relate to the Aviation industry.
