Duties

Job Summary:

We are seeking a passionate and innovative Science Teacher to join our junior high team. The ideal candidate will engage students in hands-on, inquiry-based learning experiences that foster curiosity and scientific literacy. This teacher will create dynamic, standards-aligned lessons that encourage students to explore concepts in biology, chemistry, physics, earth science, and environmental science while developing critical thinking and problem-solving skills.

Key Responsibilities:

Instruction & Classroom Management:

  • Develop and implement engaging science lessons aligned with state and district curriculum standards.
  • Utilize hands-on experiments, lab activities, and real-world applications to make science interactive and meaningful.
  • Differentiate instruction to meet the needs of diverse learners, including English Language Learners (ELLs) and students with IEPs/504 plans.
  • Foster a student-centered learning environment that encourages curiosity, inquiry, and exploration.
  • Manage laboratory equipment, ensure safety protocols are followed, and teach proper lab procedures.
  • Implement positive behavior management strategies (PBIS) to create a structured and respectful learning environment.

Assessment & Student Support:

  • Use formative and summative assessments to measure student understanding and adjust instruction accordingly.
  • Provide meaningful feedback on student work, including lab reports, projects, and assessments.
  • Identify students needing additional academic support and collaborate with special education staff, interventionists, and counselors to address individual needs.
  • Prepare students for state and district assessments through targeted instruction and test-taking strategies.

Collaboration & Professional Responsibilities:

  • Work collaboratively with grade-level teams, instructional coaches, and administrators to ensure curriculum alignment and student success.
  • Communicate regularly with parents/guardians regarding student progress, classroom activities, and behavior.
  • Participate in professional learning communities (PLCs), faculty meetings, and professional development opportunities.
  • Maintain accurate records of grades, attendance, and student progress in compliance with district policies.

Preferred Skills:

  • Experience with STEM education, inquiry-based learning, and problem-solving approaches.
  • Familiarity with state standardized testing and assessment preparation.
  • Proficiency in using science lab equipment, digital simulations, and virtual labs.
  • Ability to build strong relationships with students, families, and colleagues.

Qualifications

Qualifications:

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Science, Education, or a related field (Master’s preferred).
  • Certification: Valid state teaching certification in Science (Grades 6-8 or applicable level).
  • Experience: Prior experience teaching Science at the junior high level is preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of scientific concepts, the scientific method, and laboratory safety procedures.
  • Ability to integrate technology, data analysis, and project-based learning into instruction.
  • Excellent classroom management, organizational, and communication skills.
