Duties

We are seeking a passionate and dedicated English Language Arts (ELA) Teacher to join our junior high team. The ideal candidate will foster a love of reading and writing while developing students’ critical thinking and communication skills. This teacher will create engaging, standards-aligned lessons that support diverse learners and prepare students for academic success.

Key Responsibilities:

Instruction & Classroom Management:

  • Develop and implement engaging ELA lessons aligned with state standards and curriculum guidelines.
  • Teach and reinforce literacy skills, including reading comprehension, writing, grammar, vocabulary, and literary analysis.
  • Use differentiated instruction to meet the needs of diverse learners, including English Language Learners (ELLs) and students with accommodations.
  • Foster a student-centered learning environment that encourages discussion, collaboration, and critical thinking.
  • Manage classroom behavior effectively using positive behavior interventions and supports (PBIS) and other classroom management strategies.
  • Integrate technology, multimedia resources, and project-based learning to enhance instruction.

Assessment & Student Support:

  • Use formative and summative assessments to evaluate student progress and adjust instruction accordingly.
  • Provide meaningful feedback on student writing and assignments to promote growth.
  • Identify students needing additional academic support and collaborate with interventionists, special education staff, and counselors to address individual needs.
  • Differentiate instruction for students at varying proficiency levels.

Collaboration & Professional Responsibilities:

  • Work collaboratively with grade-level teams, instructional coaches, and administrators to ensure curriculum alignment and student success.
  • Communicate regularly with parents/guardians regarding student progress, assignments, and behavior.
  • Participate in professional learning communities (PLCs), faculty meetings, and professional development opportunities.
  • Maintain accurate records of grades, attendance, and student progress in compliance with district policies.

Qualifications

 

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in English, Education, or a related field.
  • Certification: Valid state teaching certification in English Language Arts (Grades 6-8 or applicable level).
  • Experience: Prior experience teaching ELA at the junior high level is preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of literary analysis, composition, reading strategies, and writing instruction.
  • Ability to differentiate instruction and integrate best practices in literacy education.
  • Strong classroom management, organizational, and communication skills.

Additional Notes

Preferred Skills:

  • Experience with writing workshops and guided reading.
  • Familiarity with state standardized testing and assessment preparation.
  • Proficiency in using educational technology and digital literacy tools.
  • Ability to build strong relationships with students, families, and colleagues.
