Duties

  • Learn and teach the district curriculum and best instructional practices for each content area as approved by the Board of Education.
  • Continuous professional development by completing a master's degree and by participating in district and building professional growth activities.
  •  Follow the policies and procedures adopted by the Board of Education and the Illinois School Code.
  • Actively participate in the implementation of the district's mission and strategic plan and the school's site plan. 
  • Create an effective and attractive learning environment for students. 
  • Communicate regularly with parents and work cooperatively with parents for the best interests of the student.
  • Teach reading, language arts, social studies, mathematics, science, art, health, physical education and music to students in a classroom, utilizing course of study adopted by the Board of Education and other appropriate learning activities.
  • Instruct students in citizenship and basic subject matter specific in state law and administrative regulations and procedures of the school district.
  • Develop lesson plans and instructional materials and provide individualized and small group instruction in order to adapt the curriculum to the needs of each student.
  • Translate lesson plans into learning experiences to best utilize the available time for instruction.
  • Establish and maintain standards and student behavior needed to achieve an effective learning atmosphere in the classroom appropriate to the grade level of the students.
  • Regularly evaluate pupils' academic and social personal growth, keep appropriate records, and prepare progress reports.
  • Identify student needs and work cooperatively with other building and district personnel to assess and help student solves health, attitude and learning problems.
  • Maintain professional competence through inservice education activities provided by the district and self-selected professional growth activities.
  • Select and requisition books and instructional aides; maintains required inventory records. 
  • Supervise students in out of classroom activities during the assigned work day.
  • Administer group standardized tests in accordance with district testing program.
  • Participate in curriculum development programs as required.
  • Participate in staff committees and the sponsorship of student activities.
  • Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials and facilities.
  • Other responsibilities as assigned by the Building Administrator

Qualifications

  • Illinois Professional Educator License (PEL)
  • Comprehensive knowledge, understanding, and skill in content area/assignment
  • Minimum 2 years of successful teaching experience preferred or relevant coursework within the last 3 years
  • Knowledge and experience with Google suite
