Duties

Komarek School Music Teacher/Vocal Music Teacher (Kindergarten through 8th grades)

Position Purpose
The Vocal Music Teacher, under the general supervision of the Principal, provides basic fundamentals of music instruction as well as vocal/choral music. This staff member also develops in each pupil an appreciation of the art of music; teaches techniques of vocal and/or instrumental music expression; discovers and develops the talent of pupils in the field of music; develops students' knowledge and skills in listening to and reading music; and plans holiday programs and special musical presentations.
 
Essential Functions
1. Plans a program of study in music education that meets the individual needs, interests, and abilities of students and meets the requirements of District curriculum and state standards. 
2. Develops and maintains a classroom environment conducive to effective learning.
3. Utilizes a variety of instructional techniques and instructional media, consistent with the needs and capabilities of the individuals or student groups involved. 
4. Makes learning visible through effective student engagement. 
5. Integrates technology to support effective instruction, student learning, and classroom management. 
6. Reflects on daily instruction and utilizes research-based best practices to modify practices for greater student outcomes and effective classroom management. 
7. Assists in the selection of sheet music, equipment, and other instructional materials. 
8. Instructs students on vocal and choral skills, musical notation, ensemble development, musical genres and repertoire. 
9. Assigns relevant homework or rehearsal schedules. 
10. Utilizes formative and summative assessments to measure the accomplishments of students on a regular basis and maintains such records as required by the District. 
11. Prepares report cards and progress reports for Music classes.
12. Facilitates conferences with students, parents, and other staff members. 
13. Takes all responsible precautions to provide for the health and safety of the students and to protect equipment, materials, and facilities. 
14. Cooperates with other members of the staff in planning instructional goals, objectives, curriculum, and instructional methods. 

Additional Duties
Performs other related tasks as assigned by the Principal and other central office administrators as designated by the Superintendent.

Equipment
Uses standard office equipment such as personal computers, printer, copier, and telephone.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Knowledge of current teaching methods and educational pedagogy.
  • Knowledge of Mucis curriculum and concepts.
  • Knowledge of applicable federal and state laws regarding education and students.
  • Ability to use computer network system and software applications as needed.
  • Ability to organize and coordinate work.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with students and parents.
  • Ability to engage in self-evaluation with regard to performance and professional growth.
  • Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with others contacted in the course of work.

 

Qualifications

Qualifications Profile
Certification/License: IL Professional Educator's License with Music endorsement

Education
Bachelors from an accredited college or university in Education or related discipline applicable to teaching assignment.

Salary/Benefits

Starting salary Bachelors/1 - $47,628
