Duties

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
 

  1. Assist students in achieving classroom objectives and academic success
  2. Maintains professional competence through participation in District provided in-service activities and/or self-selected professional growth activities related to job responsibilities 
  3. Demonstrates ethical behavior and confidentiality of information about students in school environment and community   
  4. Assists with the diapering and toileting of students 
  5. Works with individual students or small groups of students to reinforce learning of materials or skills initially introduced and outlined by certified staff 
  6. Assists the certified staff in devising special strategies for reinforcing learning materials and skills based on the understanding of individual students, their needs, interests, and abilities 
  7. Assists as directed by certified staff in the effort to successfully maintain students with special needs in an integrated setting, as determined by the grade level team 
  8. Assists teachers in instructional activities that allow for differentiated learning opportunities    
  9. Advises the certified staff and/or administrator to any problem or special information about a student
  10. Develops positive working relationships with school personnel and parents   
  11. Is capable of physically assisting students with special needs, including students using wheelchairs, of any grade level (Preschool - 8th grade) with personal needs and care including eating, dressing, positioning, bathing/cleansing, grooming, toileting, standing, bus loading, and lifting/carrying or supporting students who may weigh 60 or more pounds 
  12. Assists with the monitoring and supervising of students during non-instructional times/areas  such as: classroom, hall, lunch, recess, bus, or as otherwise requested
  13. Promotes and models school behavior management programs 
  14. Assists and carries out other duties assigned by supervising teacher and/or by building administrator(s) 

Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS: Illinois Paraprofessional License

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:     Ten month year. 

JOB GOAL: To facilitate the instruction and care of students with teachers by effectively providing support services.  Paraeducators assist students under the director of a certified teacher. This includes assisting the teacher in general daily classroom activities and helping students with special needs to care for their physical, emotional and safety needs.
