ANTICIPATED DIRECTOR OF TECHNOLOGY

Duties

  • Technology Planning and Strategy:
    • Develop, implement, and maintain a long-term technology plan for the district that aligns with instructional goals.
    • Evaluate and recommend technology investments, hardware, and software to support educational programs and administrative operations.
    • Stay current with emerging technology trends in education and integrate best practices.
  • Technology Infrastructure Management:
    • Manage the district’s IT infrastructure, including networks, servers, telecommunications, and internet services.
    • Ensure reliable access to technology resources, including wired and wireless networks, student devices, and classroom technology tools.
    • Manage the deployment, monitoring, maintenance, and upgrade of all district technology systems.
  • Skyward and Student Information System Management:
    • Ensure Skyward and SIS are fully functional, integrated with other district systems, and supports district reporting, attendance, grading, and student data needs.
    • Assist with annual registration of students, through Parent Portal of Skyward. This includes updating and managing the built-in forms as well as a payment system.
    • Train and support staff on the effective use of the Skyward, providing guidance and troubleshooting assistance as needed.
    • Ensure compliance with data reporting requirements for local, state, and federal agencies, including timely and accurate submission of student data.
  • Cybersecurity and Data Protection:
    • Implement and manage cybersecurity policies to protect student and staff data from unauthorized access or breaches.
    • Ensure compliance with relevant data protection laws, including FERPA (Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act) and COPPA (Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act).
    • Maintain confidentiality of student and staff information. Utilize confidential and personal information for professional purposes only in accordance with school district policy and regulations.
    • Conduct regular security audits, risk assessments, and disaster recovery planning.
  • Instructional Technology Integration:
    • Collaborate with curriculum leaders and educators to integrate technology and online curriculum into the teaching and learning process.
    • Provide guidance on using digital tools, learning management systems (LMS), and other educational technologies to enhance student outcomes.
    • Plan and provide training to administrators and staff on Skyward and other district data systems as well as on new technologies.
  • Budgeting and Procurement:
    • Know and stay within the technology department budget, ensuring cost-effective procurement of hardware, software, and services.
    • Manage vendor relationships, negotiate contracts, and manage technology-related purchasing decisions.
    • Seek grant-funding opportunities for technology improvements and initiatives.
  • Technology Support and Operations:
    • Supervise 1 or 2 IT support team.
    • Collaborate with 3rd party network administrators, software program vendors, and other technology specialists.
    • Ensure prompt and efficient technical support for students, teachers, and staff.
    • Restore, retrieve, and/or repair lost or damaged files or databases; manage additional databases, import/export records as needed, add users and maintain records, manage permissions, add scripts, etc.
    • Manage the implementation of new systems, including hardware installation, software deployment, and technical troubleshooting.
  • Leadership and Collaboration:
    • Serve as a member of the District Leadership Team, advising on the role of technology in achieving district goals.
    • Foster a collaborative environment with school leaders, teachers, and other stakeholders to identify technology needs and develop solutions.
    • Participate in strategic planning and district-wide initiatives focused on student achievement and operational efficiency.
  • Compliance and Reporting:
    • Ensure compliance with all federal, state, and local regulations related to technology, cybersecurity, and data privacy, including but not limited to FERPA, ISSRA, CIPA, and SOPPA.
    • Maintain accurate records of technology assets, user accounts, and system access.
    • Prepare and submit reports to the school board and administration in a timely manner on the status of technology initiatives, budgeting, and compliance.

Qualifications

  • This position manages Skyward, Thrillshare, Jamf Pro Suite, Google Suite , Linewize, Apple School Manager, e-rate, and network administration.
  • Must Pass a Background Check
  • Valid Driver’s License
  • Certification in Educational Technology or IT Management is a Plus
  • Professional Educator License Desired but Not Required

Salary/Benefits

Full-time, 12 Month Position
Salary Range: $50,000-$70,000, Determined Based on Experience and Qualifications
