Junior/Senior High School AD / Dean of Students

Duties

Athletic Director Performance Descriptors:

  • Does all scheduling for all Junior High & High School girls’ and boys’ extracurricular sports.
  • Responsible for eligibility lists – teachers report grades each Monday AM.
  • Attends home athletic events, many away from home as arranged with the Building Principals.  
  • Responsible for money boxes, paying ticket takers, scorer, timer and officials.
  • Responsible for budget recommendations to the superintendent for all boys’ and girls’ extracurricular activities.
  • Responsible official for all tournaments hosted by Elmwood High School.
  • Formal assessment of coaches (evaluation) to principal, superintendent.
  • Responsible for keeping principal informed of IHSA rules, regulations, proposals for voting (principal must vote).
  • Responsible for any associate groups needed or used in athletics, cheerleaders, pep band, custodians, etc.
  • The employee will be responsible for administering the athletic program in compliance with all rules and regulations of the Illinois High School Association.
  • The employee will make recommendations concerning the recruitment, selections, and retention of all coaches.
  • The employee will be responsible for the development, revision, implementation, and enforcement of the co-curricular Code.
  • The employee will be responsible for the development of all athletic schedules.
  • The employee will be responsible for the hiring of all officials; initiates contracts.
  • The employee will be responsible for the preparation of the total athletic budget, the athletic transportation budget, and all extracurricular activity budgets in cooperation with the head coach of each sport and the extracurricular sponsors.
  • The employee will develop and supervise a system of inventory control for all athletic equipment and supplies.
  • The employee will make arrangements for the transportation for all athletic events held away from school.
  • The employee will be responsible for the preparation of and supervision of the playing areas (gymnasium, football field, baseball fields, track, locker rooms, utility building) with assigned custodial personnel.
  • The employee will be responsible for ordering all athletic awards in cooperation with the head coach of each sport.  Awards are to be ordered so that they are available for presentation at scheduled times.
  • The employee will make recommendations concerning all groups wishing to use athletic facilities for games or practices.
  • The employee will attend all regularly scheduled Athletic Booster Club meetings and serve as liaison between the school and the Booster Organization.
  • The employee will serve as ticket manager for all athletic activities of the district. 
  • The employee will perform other duties as may be assigned by the Superintendent or designee.

Dean of Students Performance Descriptors:

  • Manage student supervision issues and enforce school behavioral expectations. 
  • Counsel students and parents about school and district policies. 
  • Assist staff and parents in developing student behavioral expectations. 
  • Assist in the planning, developing and implementing of individual student behavior plans. 
  • Serve as a resource to staff in dealing with classroom management issues. 
  • Assist in developing programs to promote positive student behavior as well as intervention strategies. 
  • Confer appropriate consequences for behavior including detention, in school suspension and out of school suspension. 
  • Conduct regular check-ins with students identified as academically at risk or experiencing chronic absenteeism, and collaborate with staff and families to provide appropriate support and interventions to improve attendance, engagement, and academic progress.
  • Support the development and facilitation of procedures and regular drills for emergencies and disasters.
  • Communicate with the Principals regularly about the needs, successes, and general operation of the school.
  • Establish procedures for safe storing and integrity of all public and confidential school records. 
  • Protect confidentiality of records and information gained as part of exercising professional duties and use discretion in sharing such information within legal confines. 
  • Attend required committee meetings and extra school sponsored functions. 
  • Communicate regularly with parents, seeking their support and advice, to create a cooperative relationship to support the student in school. 
  • Serve as Acting Administrator when a Principal is out of the building. 
  • Perform any other duties as assigned by the Superintendent.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university.

Valid Professional Educator License (PEL)

Preferred:  Administrative/Principal Endorsement and 5 years teaching/coaching experience.   

Other qualifications as determined as necessary by the school board

Salary/Benefits

Salary is regionally competitive and determined by the Board and outlined, along with benefits, in the AD/Dean's contract.  Starting Salary is $65,000 and offered insurance as determined for certified staff per CBA.  Ideal candidates will be offered a three year contract.

Through collaboration with coaches, sponsors, students, and the community, the Athletic Director will foster opportunities that encourage participation, sportsmanship, and personal development for all students.

SPECIFIC KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS: Establish and maintain effective and courteous working relationships with those contacted in the course of work (students, parents and staff). Ability to understand and follow basic oral and written instructions. Ability to communicate to students, parents and staff in an acceptable/courteous manner.
