Music Teacher - K-5 General Music

Duties

To develop in each pupil an appreciation of the art of music as part of general culture; to teach techniques of vocal or instrumental music expression; to discover and develop talents of pupils in the field of music; to develop knowledge and skills in listening to and reading music.

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Teaches music appreciation, harmony, vocal and instrumental music, and choral performance using the Board-approved curriculum and appropriate instructional strategies.
  2. Instructs students in citizenship and required subject matter in accordance with state law and district policies.
  3. Plans and organizes a balanced music program that maximizes instructional, rehearsal, and performance time.
  4. Provides whole-group, small-group, and individualized instruction to meet the diverse needs of students.
  5. Selects and utilizes age-appropriate traditional and contemporary music literature to support student learning.
  6. Establishes and maintains standards of student behavior that promote a safe, orderly, and productive learning environment.
  7. Assesses student musical growth, performance, and participation, and communicates progress with parents and school counselors.
  8. Plans, rehearses, and directs musical performances and programs for school and community events.
  9. Selects, inventories, maintains, and safeguards instructional materials, musical instruments, and other district-owned equipment; requests repairs as needed.
  10. Collaborates with colleagues and families to identify and address students' academic, behavioral, health, and social-emotional needs.
  11. Assists with musical support for school productions, graduation ceremonies, and other district or community functions.
  12. Supervises students during assigned school activities and performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  1. Certificate (03, 09 or 10)
  2. B.A. degree(s) required and area of major study.
  3. Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable.

Salary/Benefits

Salary commensurate to salary schedule per the negotiated contract.
