2026-2027 Special Education Administrator - Anticipated
Duties
Job Summary:
- Participate in the overall management of special education programs and services for students with social-emotional needs in grades kindergarten through eighth.
- Evaluate certified staff and support staff assigned.
- Provide continual supervision of special services instructional staff.
- Attend special education staffing and coordinate appropriate scheduling for all special education students in conjunction with case managers and district representatives.
- Assist in the placement of students in the special education programs to meet their needs.
- Review cases for potential students, determine eligibility, and participate in the intake process.
- Coordinate transportation arrangements.
- Monitor daily student behavior and make decisions in relation to necessary disciplinary activities.
- Oversee de-escalation and crisis intervention for all departments within the District.
- Record incidents of restrictive intervention including the use of time-out and physical restraint, completing all reports to the parents, the district and the Illinois State Board of Education.
- Assist the Director with the behavior committee annual review of data and completion of the RTO Reduction Plan and submission to ISBE annually.
- Coordinate and implement state assessments including IAR, ISA, KIDS assessment, ACCESS, etc.
- Coordinate and implement mandated trainings for staff and other appropriate staff development activities.
- Assist the Director with state mandated reports/compliance issues i.e. Student Online Personal Protection Act (SOPPA), Children's Internet Privacy Act (CIPA), required website content, Faith's Law, etc.
- Assist the Director with the revision/creation and implementation of District #843 policies and procedures.
- Assist the Director with the development and maintenance of contracts i.e. agency, custodial services, etc.
- Act as FOIA Officer
- Coverage for administrative leaves and day-to-day absences of any and all departments: Pioneer Grove, SELF, and Transportation.
- Participate in cross-training in preparation to potentially transition to the Director or Assistant Director role in the future.
- Coordinate and supervise ESY services for District #843 and member districts.
- Complete other duties as assigned by the Executive Director.
Qualifications
Qualifications:
- Preferred previous experience as an administrator for special education programs and services.
- Professional Educators License with Administrative Certification and special education teaching or related license.
- Preferred Director of Special Education endorsement
- Completed or is able to complete the requirements to be qualified as an evaluator through the completion of the appropriate training academies.
- Full/part-time experience as teacher or certified employment in an educational setting.
Salary/Benefits
Salary:
Range $85,000 - $110,000
