Assistant Superintendent of Teaching and Learning

Duties

Summary: The Assistant Superintendent provides strategic leadership and administrative leadership in the areas of personnel, federal programs, grant development, support services, and special projects. This role assumes oversight responsibility for K–12 curriculum and special education, ensuring the effective delivery of instruction and the ongoing evaluation of programs to promote continuous improvement and student success.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Provide direct oversight over the Curriculum and Instruction Programs in grades K-12 by working with the Director of Curriculum to develop, implement and provide continuous improvement of the district’s curriculum across all content areas. 
  • Provide direct oversight over the Special Education Department by working directly with the Director of Special Education to develop programming, services, and ensure compliance. 
  • Assist in the evaluation of principals and certified staff members as necessary and appropriate. 
  • Assist the curriculum and human resources departments planning staff development, orientation and mentoring of all new staff, where applicable. 
  • Oversee, in conjunction with the CFO, the review of grant proposals for submission to funding agencies – working with others to ensure paperwork is completed and submitted on time. 
  • Complete such reports related to his/her role as required by Federal, State and County agencies. 
  • Serve as the District’s Title IX Coordinator and Complaint manager for all staff-related issues, conducting such investigations as may be appropriate and necessary. 
  • Assist the Superintendent and Board with the preparation for, and conduct of, collective bargaining with the district’s associations. 
  • Assist the Curriculum Director, Building Principals, Department Chairs and Curriculum Committees with the curriculum development process. 
  • Work with the Curriculum Director to assess diversity/inclusion training and education needs and implement programming 
  • Work with the Director of Curriculum to support the Principals, Department Chairs, Content Leads, Instructional Coaches, etc. to improve the overall quality of instruction throughout the district. 
  • Provide support for the analysis of State testing programs and local District data and assist in interpreting the results of such tests and applying them to instructional improvement as needed. 
  • Serve as the Homeless Liaison 
  • Oversee the development of budgets in all areas of responsibility. 
  • Serve as a member of district and building administrative committees as appropriate. 
  • Work with the Superintendent on such special projects as may relate to his/her area of responsibility and draw upon his/her strengths. 
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Superintendent.

  • Curriculum Department
  • Special Education Department 

Qualifications

Education, Certification, and Experience: 

  • Master’s degree or higher in education, business, organizational leadership, and/or related field.
  • Minimum of five years of demonstrated successful site/district administrative experience.
  • Valid General Administrative Endorsement applicable. 
  • Valid Superintendent’s endorsement as applicable.

  • Demonstrated leadership ability
  • Ability to communicate effectively and accurately, both orally and in writing
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with both internal and external constituents
  • Ability to make independent decisions in accordance with established policies and procedures 
  • Ability to deal with difficult situations courteously and tactfully 

Salary/Benefits

$125,000
