Duties

Key Responsibilities:
? Provide individual and group counseling sessions to students experiencing emotional, social, or
behavioral challenges.

? Assess students’ emotional, social, and behavioral needs through observation, interviews, and
standardized tools.

? Develop and implement individualized IEP goals for students with social-emotional concerns or
behavioral difficulties.

? Collaborate with teachers and staff to identify students who may require additional support.

? Provide immediate support and intervention for students experiencing acute emotional distress,
trauma, or other crises.

? Work closely with teachers, administrators, and other school staff to promote a positive and
supportive school environment.? Participate in team/IEP meetings to address student needs and develop strategies for managing
challenging behaviors or academic concerns.
? Maintain regular communication with parents/guardians regarding their child’s progress,
behavioral issues, and emotional well-being.? Provide resources, referrals, and guidance to families for support outside of school, including
mental health services, community programs, and parenting strategies.
? Teach students about social-emotional learning (SEL) concepts such as empathy, teamwork,
resilience, and self-regulation.
? Maintain accurate and confidential records of counseling sessions, assessments, and
interventions.
? Document and track student progress, communicating updates to parents, teachers, and
administrators as necessary.
? Act as District Homeless Liaison per McKinney-Vento Act.

Qualifications

? Education: A degree in Social Work (MSW) or School Counseling from an accredited university.


? Licensing: Professional Educator License (PEL) along with proper Illinois endorsement.


? Skills: Strong communication, interpersonal, and problem-solving skills. Ability to collaborate with
diverse groups, including students, parents/guardians, teachers, and community agencies.


? Knowledge: Knowledge of child development, mental health disorders, crisis intervention, and social-emotional learning practices.

 

Salary/Benefits

Salary and benefits commensurate with education and experience per teacher’s contract.

Job Purpose:
To provide counseling, support, and intervention to students, addressing mental health needs, behavioral
issues, and social-emotional development. The social worker/school counselor works to improve the
academic and personal well-being of students, while also supporting staff, families, and the school community.
