Duties
Reporting to the Chief Education Officer - Instruction, provides leadership and advocates for equity for all students; interprets and executes the policies and expectations of the State Board of Education as directed; oversees and administers programs, operations, and staff within the departments of Educator Effectiveness, Standards & Instruction, and CTE; serves as a liaison between departments. In addition, partners with outside educational and professional institutions to share information and collaborate on efforts for the benefit of the students of Illinois and the Illinois State Board of Education.
- Represents and speaks accurately on behalf of the State Board of Education to Illinois school districts, educational organizations, other state/federal agencies, committees, and the public concerning the interpretation of agency policies, procedures, or actions as it pertains to instruction.
- Models collaboration between cross functional departments focused on aligning Teaching & Learning to Operational Education departments to improve student learning according to ESSA.
- Develops and recommends policies, programs, and procedures to improve our instructional services to school districts by strengthening our delivery of services through Educator Effectiveness, Standards & Instruction, and CTE.
- In coordination with the Agency's records management coordinator, serves as department liaison for records management.
- Creates systems and structures in regards to delivering job embedded professional development through cycles of inquiry through our professional development offerings.
- Works with staff in ISBE to develop additional grants, contracts, and budgets to increase partnerships that help us recruit, retain, and support our teacher recruitment efforts in to staff districts and schools.
- Develops a five year plan to close the achievement gap for special education students, English language learners and African American students.
- Develops and creates leadership development opportunities with the expressed purpose of increasing our staff's leadership capacity. In addition, to provide our staff with vertical leadership pathways as a way to developing an ISBE leadership pipeline.
- Collaborates with CTE, Special Education, Early Childhood and Multilingual services to develop a comprehensive professional development focused on increasing student learning for our most vulnerable students according to ESSA.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
