Duties
Job Goal:
- To provide instruction and functional curriculum support for K-8 ELL students.
- To provide a personalized instructional program that is compatible with the abilities, needs and learning characteristics of each identified ELL student.
Performance Responsibilities:
- Effectively utilize district technologies appropriate to the position.
- Work collaboratively with general and special education teachers, support personnel, administrators and parents in an environment which will enable identified students to succeed in their efforts to learn language literacy.
- Work collaboratively with literacy coaches at the building level to support language and literacy instruction.
- Monitor student growth and collaboratively identify and deliver interventions.
- Collect and analyze student achievement data to demonstrate student growth (e.g. running records, progress monitoring instruments).
- Assist in gathering data and preparing reports to meet district, state and federal guidelines relating to ELL and maintain all necessary records as required by the program.)
- Provide diagnostic and testing services for ELL students including:
- Provide district leadership in the development, implementation and monitoring of the district wide ELL programming.
- Provide content knowledge and pedagogical expertise regarding ELL programming including:
- Interpretation of assessment data to document student progress and plan instruction
- Strategies for differentiation
- Practices that promote learning
- Provide information and guidance regarding a range of effective and innovative practices for ELL through various activities such as:
- Formal and informal discussions
- Professional development and/or training programs and workshops
- Provide direct service to student individually or in small groups including:
- Implementation of lessons
- Assessment of student learning
Qualifications
Position Title: English Language Learner Teacher
Department: Bilingual
Licensure: Valid Illinois teaching certificate
Endorsement: Bilingual ESL Certification (Type 3 or Type 9)
