  Job Summary: 

 

The Public Relations and Marketing Specialist plans, organizes, develops, and disseminates information and publicity pertaining to various District events, functions, initiatives and activities. The individual establishes and maintains cooperative relationships with news media groups, and assists in the design, layout and editing of online new releases, publications and promotional materials.
  • Disseminate information to the public and school district staff.
  • Serve as communication liaison between the media and the District. 
  • Prepare and distribute news releases, arrange for interviews and news conferences with the media, and respond to requests for information.
  • Implement and monitor a comprehensive communications plan with progressive, consistent activities that address community relations and raise public awareness.
  • Assess the effectiveness and efficiency of communication efforts and improve as necessary.
  • Develop and effectively deliver strategic messages across the District.
  • Develop and implement activities to solicit feedback from stakeholders.
  • Prepare summary of Board of Education meetings for dissemination immediately following conclusion of meetings.
  • Coordinate layout, designs and production of website, newsletter and other publications.
  • Update the District website, social media sites and photography archive on a regular basis.
  • Photograph or secure basic video of events in the District that are suitable content for the District website(s).
  • Write and produce quarterly newsletters covering news about programs, students and staff events, and other issues of interest.
  • Collaborate with the Parent Liaison regarding contacts and communications with community groups/organizations.
  • Actively monitor and integrate all forms of social media (e.g. Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, etc.) to support and promote news, activities and achievements throughout the District.
  • Solicit news and information in order to generate newsworthy stories and then draft-write online copy for articles, websites and social media.
  • Interface with members of local and regional media outlets, providing a customer-service approach in facilitating story requests and inquiries.
  • Provide and publish weekly electronic compilations of online news stories about the District.
  • Maintain commitment to ongoing professional development

 

Qualifications

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Public Relations, Communication, or other related field, Master’s Degree preferred;
  •  Two years related experience in public relations and/or media work.  Previous experience working with public schools preferred;
  • Knowledge of principles, methods, procedures and strategies concerning a public information and community relations program;
  • Knowledge of legal mandates, policies, regulations, and guidelines pertaining to the distribution of news and public information;
  • Knowledge of methods, techniques and procedures pertaining to the preparation of news releases, news copy, promotional brochures and other informational materials;
  • Knowledge of news media and other informational distribution resources;
  • Knowledge of appropriate English usage, grammar, punctuation, spelling and editing and proofreading techniques;
  • Knowledge of Web technologies and social media platforms;
  • Ability to support communication initiatives by generating publicity and general awareness efforts, raising the profile of the school district through a wide range of media, including local publications, Websites, e-newsletters and social media posts;
  • Ability to effectively and efficiently plan, organize and coordinate a public information and community relations program;
  • Ability to skillfully organize, design, layout and edit public information and promotional materials;
  • Ability to seek out and cultivate news and information resources;
  • Ability to communicate effectively in oral and written form utilizing a journalistic and technical writing style;
  • Ability to understand and carry out oral and written directions with minimal accountability controls;
  • Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships.

Salary/Benefits

Salary and Benefits: 

  • Starting salary of $45,000, commensurate with experience;

Work Conditions:

  • Work Hours: 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
  • 12 month position.
