Duties
Position Overview:
As an Elementary - Middle School Teacher at the Archdiocese of Chicago Schools, you will play a vital role in providing a quality education to elementary school students. You will be responsible for creating a nurturing and engaging learning environment, developing lesson plans, delivering instruction, assessing student progress, and collaborating with colleagues and parents. Your primary focus will be on teaching and supporting students in K - 8th grades, fostering their academic, social, and emotional growth.
Responsibilities:
Curriculum Development:
- Develop and implement lesson plans aligned with the school's curriculum and state standards.
- Create engaging and differentiated instructional materials to meet the diverse needs of students.
- Integrate technology and other resources into lessons to enhance learning.
Classroom Management:
- Establish a positive and inclusive classroom environment conducive to learning.
- Maintain discipline and manage student behavior effectively.
- Foster a respectful and supportive classroom culture that promotes collaboration and active participation.
Instruction and Assessment:
- Deliver engaging and effective instruction across various subjects, including language arts, mathematics, science, social studies, and more.
- Utilize a variety of teaching strategies and techniques to accommodate different learning styles and abilities.
- Assess student progress through formative and summative assessments and provide timely feedback to students and parents.
- Identify students who require additional support and implement appropriate interventions.
Individualized Support:
- Identify individual learning needs and adapt instruction to support students with different abilities and learning styles.
- Collaborate with support staff, such as special education teachers and counselors, to develop and implement individualized education plans (IEPs) and accommodations.
Parent Communication and Collaboration:
- Maintain open and effective communication with parents/guardians regarding student progress, behavior, and academic performance.
- Conduct parent-teacher conferences and provide regular updates on student achievements and areas for improvement.
- Collaborate with parents and involve them in their child's education through workshops, events, and volunteer opportunities.
Professional Development and Collaboration:
- Participate in professional development activities to enhance teaching skills and stay updated on educational best practices.
- Collaborate with colleagues to share ideas, resources, and strategies for improving instruction.
- Contribute to school-wide initiatives, committees, and extracurricular activities as needed.
