Duties

 

  1. Provides research-based specialized instruction to address the instructional goals and objectives contained within each student’s IEP.  
  2. Assesses student progress and determines the need for additional reinforcement or adjustments to instructional techniques.  
  3. Employs various teaching techniques, methods and principles of learning to enable students to meet their IEP goals.  
  4. Develops and implements annual Individualized Educational Program (IEP) plans for students to include: present levels of educational performance, special education needs, instructional goals and objectives, and the special education and related services required to meet those goals.  
  5. Actively participate on problem solving and intervention teams to facilitate early involvement and resolution to learning or behavioral problems in grade level team meetings, faculty meetings, and SASED committees. 
  6. Schedules team meetings and works cooperatively with child study team members and others in developing instructional goals and strategies.  
  7. Coordinates the delivery of special education services in each student's IEP.  Creates a positive learning experience with emphasis in individualized instruction using appropriate sources.  
  8. Implement standardized and benchmarking assessments as directed by program utilizing individual accommodations noted on the IEP.  Complete progress monitoring for ELA, Math, and behavior as appropriate.
  9. Serves as primary contact for the parent.  
  10. Conducts special education evaluations and reevaluations as part of the IEP Team. 
  11. Provides direction, supervision and evaluation of educational assistants as directed.
  12. Complies with School Board policies and all state/federal rules and regulations.  
  13. Completes all district and state reporting requirements.
  14. Establishes and maintains student control and discipline in the classroom, school premises or during school activities.  
  15. Employs and implements a classroom structure and consistency to encourage student responsibility, cooperation and mutual respect consistent with district policies and procedures.  
  16. Collaborates and consults with educational professionals and community service providers (i.e., social services, public health, medical providers etc.) regarding the needs of students. 
  17. Provides consultation to classroom teachers regarding classroom adaptations, instructional modifications, adaptive equipment, behavior modification plans and other similar instructional interventions to meet the needs of students with disabilities.  
  18. Support the instructional/behavioral model upon which the program is based. 
  19. Maintain continuous, informal communication with parents.
  20. Implement the behavioral model in a consistent and fair manner.
  21. Prepare and submit all required reports, especially those pertaining to student progress, in a timely and thorough manner.
  22. Inform the administrator of special concerns and needs as they pertain to the behavior and academics of individual students.
  23. Work effectively as a team member and act as IEP Case Manager
  24. Develop professionally by keeping abreast of changes/issues in the field of behavior disorders, taking additional coursework or attending workshops, in-service activities and other professional meetings.
  25. Select, adapt and appropriately use teaching methods and materials to meet individual needs of students.
  26. Participate in events outside of the regularly scheduled work day such as orientation, open houses or conferences.
  27. Assign work, instructions or lessons to teacher assistants and serve as a model for using best practice approaches for students with special needs.  Assess work, modify and provide regular feedback.
  28. Participate in staff development and school improvement activities in order to maintain professional growth.  Plan and incorporate best practices or new strategies.

 

Qualifications

Professional Educator License with LBSI endorsement issued by the Illinois State Board of Education or specialized endorsement.
