Duties

Job Summary:
Works with the Summer Programs administration to manage and maintain the academic programs offered to our students over the summer.
The Summer Programs teacher leader is responsible for assisting in the development and implementation of systems related to the management of: 

  • communications,
  • personnel,
  • student discipline,
  • services and resources,
  • facilities,
  • transportation, and
  • records. 

The Summer Programs teacher leader closely collaborates with other staff and administration, focusing on the continuous growth and improvement of all students. The Teacher Leader demonstrates knowledge of best practices related to: instruction, language development, child and early adolescent development, social-emotional development, as well as academic and behavior interventions.  The Summer Program teacher leader communicates with students’ parents or guardians regarding the instructional program and student progress. Spanish speaking is desirable.

Qualifications

Qualifications:
Candidates must be a current Cook County School District 130 employee, holding a valid PEL with general administrative or principal endorsement. In addition, candidates must have the abilities to:

  • Assist and coach staff through assessment of student learning and modifying instruction as needed;
  • Analyze data and use it to make instructional decisions;
  • Effectively communicate best practices in delivering reading and/or math instruction;
  • Support the incorporation of technology for enhancing instruction;
  • Work with a diverse group of staff and students;
  • Present a multitude of classroom management and student discipline techniques based in PBIS and Responsive classroom techniques;
  • Establish open and regular communication with parents and guardians;
  • Minimally 5 years of successful teaching experience;
  • Spanish speaking is desirable.

In addition, the candidate must ensure their teaching license is up to date in ELIS for the length of the entire Summer Programs.

Note: Summer School is an opportunity for teachers to provide input into practices and procedures that the District may be considering for implementation in the upcoming school year. These programs are primarily used to support students, but they also serve as an opportunity to conduct action-research that will shape the direction of student instruction and feedback, student and family engagement, and professional development for the District.

Salary/Benefits

Salary:
Contractual rate for 76 hours
(4 hours per day for 15 student attendance days + 5 hours of professional development + 11 hours of planning/logistics)
