Duties

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

 1.    Identify student needs and collaborate with other professional staff members in assessing and  

        helping to solve health, social, and learning concerns.

 2.    Teach academic/curricular areas that pertain to the students needs; may include but not be 

        limited to reading, language arts, math, science, social studies, and functional/self help skills.

 3.    Develop lesson plans and instructional materials and provides individualized and small group  

        instruction in order to adapt the curriculum to the needs of each student.  Collaborative with 

        general education staff in developing differentiated lesson plans for all students’ success.

 4.    Evaluate and monitor academic and emotional student growth through appropriate records 

        including informal and formal data collection.

 5.    Develop Individual Educational Plans with specific goals aligned to the Illinois State Standards.

 6.    Communicate with parents through conferences and other means to discuss student progress 

        in all areas of development.

 7.    Develop appropriate behavioral management programs within the classroom and throughout 

        the school day to meet unique needs of the student.

 8.    Supervise and provide guidance to paraprofessionals to ensure individual student needs are met.

 9.    Evaluate student’s academic and emotional growth for continued success in the least 

        restrictive environment.

10.   Keep inventory and care of classroom materials.

11.   Perform duties with universal precautions for the student and teachers welfare.

12.   Participate in all of the responsibilities within the Berwyn District 100 teacher contract.

13.   Maintain professional expertise and specialization through professional development provided 

        by the district in order to use best practices and integrity in teaching.

14.   Perform other duties and assume responsibilities as may be assigned. 

Qualifications

Type 03, 04, 09, or 10 Illinois Teaching Certificate with special education

                               endorsement.  LBS1 (Learning Behavior Specialist)
