Duties
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Implement school and district wide initiatives such as balanced literacy, technology
integration, backwards design unit planning and dual language planning
2. Provide team coaching by attending common plan times to support teachers with school and
district wide initiatives.
3. Utilize coaching cycles to support individual teachers to develop and reflect on instructional
goals and student progress. Provide supportive instructional resources when available
including planning, modeling lessons, co-teaching and giving feedback.
4. Provide support to teachers to help decision-making around integrating technology to
differentiate literacy instruction.
5. Develop and facilitate professional development at a building and district level that helps staff
deepen their understanding of best practices in literacy.
6. Participate in district curriculum development and monitor implementation.
7. Work collaboratively and communicate effectively with administrators, teachers and other
school staff to strengthen all aspects of the instructional program.
8. Support practices of growth mindset to support a positive culture and climate in the building.
9. Communicate the process of RTI to the staff, including full understanding of the expectations
at the Universal/Tier 1, Tier 2 and Tier 3 levels and provide support to teachers during
implementation.
10. Set school based goals on student and staff needs with the building administrator and literacy
coordinator.
11. Look at data and analyze trends to inform instruction through team planning, individual
coaching and building wide professional development.
12. Attend regular coaching collaboration meetings to increase coaching capacity.
13. Participate in professional development, research, reading and inquiry sessions to stay abreast
of developments in best classroom practices, technology and assessment.
14. Engage in reflective practices to identify successes and challenges.
15. Perform other duties and assume responsibilities as may be assigned by the superintendent or
designee and in accordance with terms stipulated in the current contract.
Qualifications
1. Masters in Reading and/or ISBE State Certification (03) with 18 hours of
coursework in the diagnosis and remediation of disabilities for reading
endorsement; and/or National Board Certification in Literacy
2. Must have a strong knowledge base on literacy topics, but also have the
skills needed to present and transfer knowledge to the staff
3. Minimum 5 years successful teaching experience preferred
4. EL Certification preferred

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Ten-month year
EVALUATION: Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Board’s policy on Evaluation of Professional Personnel
