Duties

GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES: The duties and responsibilities of the STEAM teacher involve instruction directly related to STEAM and computer science in our Innovation/Maker Lab.

 

REPORTS TO: Principal and Assistant Principal(s)

 

RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

  1. Demonstrates the ability to model, deliver and craft rich student-centered learning experiences around Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, & Math. 2.

  2. Is responsible for teaching and planning for middle school STEAM courses as well as integrating STEAM concepts K-8. 

  3. Promotes a classroom environment that is safe and conducive to individualized and small group instruction, and student learning.

  4. Develops lesson plans and instructional materials and translates lesson plans into learning experiences to develop pertinent sequential assignments, challenge students, and best utilize the available time for instruction.

  5. Works with students and others to prepare materials for inclusion in literary publications, contests, etc.

  6. Conducts ongoing assessment of student learning and progress, and modifies instructional methods to fit individual student's needs, including students with special needs; conducts individual and small group instruction as needed.

  7. Continues to acquire professional knowledge and learn of current developments in the educational field by attending seminars, workshops or professional meetings, or by conducting research.

  8. Organizes and maintains a system for accurate and complete record-keeping, grading, and reporting for all student activities, achievement and attendance as required by district procedures and applicable laws.

  9. Encourages parental involvement in students' education and ensures effective communication with students and parents.

  10. Ensures that student conduct conforms with the school's standards and school district policies, and establishes and maintains standards of student behavior needed to achieve a functional learning atmosphere in the classroom.

  11. Coordinates with other professional staff members, especially within grade level, and participates in faculty meetings and committees.

  12. Selects and requisitions appropriate books, instructional aids and other supplies and equipment and maintains inventory records.

  13. Maintain professional attitudes, be sensitive to the feelings and needs of others, be able to relate to students and employees and be willing to fulfill responsibilities in accordance with the school’s educational philosophy.

  14. Perform other duties as assigned by administrators.

Qualifications

  1. IL Certification/License:

  2. Expert level of technology and 21st century learning understanding and application.  

  3. Deep knowledge of content standards, effective instructional strategies, and assessment driven instruction. 

  4. Experience (or familiarity with) tools such as, but not limited to: 3D printing, BASIC coding, autocad, laser cutting, vinyl cutting, Arduino, Makey-Makey, Codecademy, Sphero, Tynker, BeeBot, Parrot MiniDrone, etc. 

  5. Motor Vehicle Operator's License or ability to provide own transportation.
