Duties

Essential Functions and Responsibilities:

  1. Plan a program of instruction for each student that incorporates diagnosis, prescription and evaluation, and teach in the context of the latest instructional models.
  2. Collaborate with classroom teachers.
  3. Meet and instruct assigned classes in the locations and at the times designated.
  4. Create a classroom environment that is conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity, interests and abilities of students.
  5. Set and maintain appropriate standards of classroom behavior that are consistent with administration policies and develop rules for classroom behavior which are enforced in a fair and just manner.
  6. Employ a variety of instructional techniques and instructional media consistent with the physical limitations of the location provided and the needs and capabilities of the individuals or student groups involved.
  7. Assess the accomplishments of students on a regular basis, provide progress reports as required and communicate with parents as deemed necessary.
  8. Maintain accurate, complete and correct records as required by law, district policy and administrative regulation.
  9. Serve on district committees (as appropriate and/if available) which develop curriculum and enhance instruction; committee work beyond the regular school day will follow guidelines established in policy.
  10. Work to establish and maintain open lines of communication with students and their parents, concerning both the broad academic and behavioral progress of all assigned students.
  11. Plan and supervise assignments for teacher aides, student teachers and volunteers.
  12. Attends staff meetings (as appropriate).
  13. Performs other tasks (as appropriate).

Qualifications

Qualifications: Appropriate State of Illinois License. The EL teacher must have a valid Illinois professional educator license with an ESL/ENL endorsement and, if required for a specific assignment, at ESL/bilingual endorsement and meet the applicable State certification and licensure requirements for the grade levels assigned.

Purpose: To help students learn subject matter and/or skills that will contribute to their development as mature, able and responsible men and women.

Salary/Benefits

Salary is based on the salary schedule and experience per G.E.A. contract.
