Duties

Purpose:    To provide sound educational programs for children who cannot sufficiently benefit from regular classroom instruction as a result of disability, as defined by special education criteria.

Essential Functions and Performance Responsibilities: (These are intended only as illustrations of the various types of work performed. The omission of specific duties does not exclude them from the position if the work is similar, related, or a logical assignment to the position.)

  1. Performs casework service with individual students to support those academic, personal, social and/or emotional maladjustments related to their educational and social progress.
  2. Performs casework service with parents as an integral part of the task of helping students, to increase the parents’ understanding, their constructive participation in resolving their child’s academic and/or social-emotional needs, and their knowledge and use of appropriate resources available.
  3. Consults and collaborates with other school personnel in gathering and giving information on a case, and in establishing and planning for respective roles in the modification of the   
      student’s academic and/or behavioral supports.
  4. Supervises and/or facilitates the referral of students.
  5. Conduct evaluations for students in referral to determine eligibility for services through IEPs or Section 504 Plans. 
  6. Serves as a liaison between home and school when follow-up is necessary.
  7. Keeps sufficient records of cases for use by school staff members and outside agencies when appropriate.
  8. Strives to maintain and improve professional competence.
  9. Attends staff meetings (as appropriate).
  10. Prepares lessons that reflect accommodations for individual student differences.
  11. Performs other tasks (as appropriate).

Appropriate ISBE License, LBS1 Endorsement 

Salary/Benefits

The work year for this position is 180 days. Salary is in accordance with the teacher salary schedule.
