Duties

POSITION SUMMARY

The Clinical Director is an integral part of our administrative team who possesses a sophisticated understanding of learning disabilities and other neurodevelopmental disorders and is able to develop individualized approaches for the complex and unique cognitive and academic profiles of students at The Cove School.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES (include but are not limited to):

Instructional Leadership

  • Work collaboratively with the instructional leadership team at the school
  • Advise teachers on academic curriculum, instruction, assessment, and implementation of special education services
  • Provide support, guidance, and assistance to the principal and assistant principal
  • Occasionally provide individual cognitive and academic testing

Case Coordination

  • Lead Individualized Education Plan (IEP) meetings and facilitate evaluation of IEP/Annual Reviews
  • Coordinate schoolwide processes for case management of students including instructional planning, selection of intervention materials and transition planning

Supervision and Evaluation

  • Supervise and evaluate clinical teams (social workers, speech/language pathologists, occupational therapists, reading specialists, assistive technologists, and art therapists) with a focus on continuous improvement
  • Assist with the hiring, assignment, and induction of certified staff
  • Review IEPs for accuracy and compliance
  • Work closely with case managers to insure the deadlines related to IDEA documentation, data reports or special education documents are met

Program Development, Implementation, and Evaluation

  • Coordinate and lead student team meetings
  • Maintain and build awareness of current special education laws, regulations, and compliance rules for non-public schools and related documentation and reporting
  • Analyze student and schoolwide data to drive decision making
  • Oversee assessment practices and processes
  • Contribute to the oversight for behavior management
  • Plan and monitor expenses for clinical teams

Consultation/Collaboration

  • Collaborate with colleagues, parents, private providers, and school districts concerning best practices for students with complex learning disabilities
  • Effectively utilize conflict resolution strategies and problem-solving skills to address child, family, team, or organizational issues
  • Coordinate, facilitate, and participate in parent meetings, family nights, and parent conferences

Qualifications

DESIRED EXPERIENCE

Certification:

  • State of Illinois Professional Educator’s License (PEL)
  • Psychologist 

Experience:

  • Demonstrated excellence as a clinical leader with strong organizational, problem-solving, and human relations skills
  • Experience with collaborative groups and processes in a student-centered environment

COMPENSATION

The salary for this position is competitive and depends on prior experience. A competitive benefits package will also be offered.

This position is a Full-time (12 months) position.

The Cove School is a non-public therapeutic day school educating 165 students with complex learning disabilities in Kindergarten through 12th grade in Northbrook, IL, just 35 minutes north of Chicago. Our mission is to create an exceptional environment where children with learning disabilities “learn how to learn” and develop the emotional and social skills to reach within, achieve above, exceed beyond and maximize their growth. 

For 75 years, The Cove School has been a national leader within its field, providing award-winning individualized instruction and specialized services that help students develop the skills and self-confidence required to successfully transition to community schools or post-secondary education and careers. Classes are kept small. Teaching is flexible and varies according to the individual student’s learning style. A team of onsite specialists works collaboratively to provide students with intensive, integrated services. Cove students come from over 60 different public schools throughout the Chicago area. Families can also choose to fund tuition privately.
