Assistant Principal/Athletic Director

Duties

Under the general supervision of a Middle School Principal, to assist the Principal in providing leadership and supervision in administering the educational program of a Middle School in order to promote the educational development and achievement of students in accordance with Board of Education policies, administrative procedures, rules and regulations, and applicable law.
To provide leadership in program development and improvement, as well as in professional staff development.  To serve as Principal in the absence of the Principal.

Duties and Essential Job Functions

  • Assist in administering student discipline.
  • Oversee and coordinate facility management.
  • Coordinate the use of all JMS facilities for district and community use.
  • Organize and schedule  athletic events.
  • Contract officials for all home contests.
  • Arrange transportation for all away contests.
  • Develop and continue to evaluate appropriate rules and regulations governing the conduct of athletic activities, coaches, and students and communicate same with students and parents.
  • Distribute and monitor individual sports budgets/purchase orders from district athletic budget.
  • Hire athletic contest workers.
  • Supervise home contests in all sports.
  • Prepare athletic calendar.
  • Responsible for and manage the activities of coaches, athletic organizations, participants and their families in the off season.
  • Is a member of the JMS School Admin Team and performs related tasks as assigned by the Principal.
  • Participates in professional growth opportunities.
  • Supervises students as assigned.
  • Evaluate Staff as Needed

Qualifications

Education, Experience & Certification Requirements
Master’s Degree from an accredited college or university, preferably in School
Administration or other related educational discipline.
• Professional Educator License with a General Administrative Endorsement or Principal
Endorsement.
• Extensive successful record of dynamic educational leadership.
• Demonstrated ability to work with people in a way that facilities positive growth in both
students and staff.
• Demonstrated professionalism.

Knowledge & Skills

  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
  • Ability to deal with abstract and concrete variables.
  • Ability to work with adolescents.
  • Ability to apply knowledge of current research and theory in the field.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, staff, and the community.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and concisely both orally and in writing.
  • Ability to perform all duties with the awareness of all District requirements and Board of Education policies.
  • Requires meeting deadlines, interacting with the public and staff and irregular or extended work hours.
  • Ability to meet demands from several people.
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups, parents, staff, and the general public.
  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.

Salary/Benefits

Regionally competitive salary and benefits commensurate with experience. Actual salary and benefits will be negotiated with finalists. Benefits include health, life, and vision insurance; paid sick time (i.e., 13 days), personal time (i.e., 3 days), and vacation time (i.e., 20 days).
