Duties

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

Engages students in STEAM/STEM learning using an open-ended, problem-based learning approach that fosters higher-order thinking.

Follows educational philosophy, Board of Education policies, and administrative procedures.

Uses knowledge of students’ current understanding and Whole Child Development to set and communicate rigorous instructional outcomes

Establishes and maintains a respectful, affirming, organized and purposeful learning environment to nurture a culture of learning and positive student behaviors

Works directly with school and district administrators to support the implementation and evaluation of STEAM/STEM programming to participate in future planning and decision-making.

Promotes self-esteem by showing respect for an understanding of students as learners.

Evaluates and reports achievement to students, parents, and principal.

Monitors student progress and maintains records of student achievement.

Cooperates with colleagues in planning and implementing instructional goals and objectives to serve the needs of students.

Communicates and exhibits positive interpersonal relationships.

Plans for and utilizes support staff when applicable.

Pursues continuous improvement and professional learning to maintain current understanding of STEAM/STEM methodologies and research.

Works to get children to showcase their work/projects/experiments/research/activities at a competitive level.

Fulfills other job-related responsibilities for specific teaching assignments as needed.

Qualifications

TITLE: STEAM Teacher

QUALIFICATIONS:
Hold valid Illinois certificate for teaching grades 3 - 5
Evidence of at least 3 years of successful teaching experience
Ability to apply science and/or math content knowledge and integrate technology at a high level
Ability to deliver professional learning for other teachers
Deep understanding of the Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS), the Common Core State Standards (CCSS), and the National Educational Technology Standards (NETS)
Masters degree from a regionally accredited institution, or National Board Certification - preferred
Experience teaching in a STEAM related content area - preferred

Salary/Benefits

Salary commensurate with experience. Benefits provided per teacher's contract. Salary range $48,000 - $57,000
