Duties

Primary Purpose: Provide students with appropriate instructional supports and experiences to fulfill their potential for intellectual, emotional, physical and social growth as aligned in the District’s Strategic Plan. This collaborative, multi-faceted role includes: 

  1. Planning for instruction and assessment on an individual and program basis. 
  2. Planning with colleagues at the building and district level to promote student learning and the success of all learners.

Performance Responsibilities:

  • The professional teaching standards to which each teacher is expected to conform are set forth in Charlotte Danielson’s Framework for Teaching
  • Plan and use appropriate instructional and learning strategies, activities and materials, and equipment that reflect the needs of student assigned
  • Work cooperatively with general education teachers to modify curricula as needed for special education students according to guidelines established in Individual Education Plans (IEP)
  • Embrace inclusive practices for all students.
  • Use technology to strengthen the teaching/learning process
  • Create a classroom environment conducive to learning and appropriate for the physical, social, and emotional development of students
  • Maintain a professional relationship with all colleagues, students, parents, and community members
  • Demonstrate behavior that is professional, ethical, and responsible
  • Maintain confidentiality in the conduct of district business
  • Support and train assigned paraprofessionals as required

Qualifications

  • Valid Illinois Professional Educator License with Learning Behavior Specialist I endorsement required
  • Previous experience and passion for working with students with complex needs
  • Previous experience with Comprehensive Literacy for All Framework highly desirable
  • Previous experience with Integrated Assistive Technology highly desirable
  • Previous experience with Structured Teaching highly desirable
