Duties

Job Description:  The Parent Educator provides services to pregnant moms and families with children birth to age three in their home environment. The home visitor applies the Parents as Teachers curriculum to provide positive parenting support through comprehensive home based- early childhood services, which includes identifying parents' strengths, providing parenting education, promoting parent-child interaction, monitoring child's development, health, and well-being, identifying families' needs, referring families to different community services, and collaborating with other home visitors and agencies to provide comprehensive services.

Qualifications

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in social work, child development, child and family services, early childhood education, psychology or sociology with preschool or kindergarten experience;
  • Candidates with a bachelor’s degree in a related field of study may be considered;
  • Two years of experience working intensely with young children and families of culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds in a counseling setting, school setting, or through a social service agency;
  • Demonstrated success in the coordination of comprehensive services in support of at-risk families;
  • Strong background in early childhood education, social/emotional skill development, and advocacy;
  • Experience organizing and facilitating parent activities;
  • Strong interpersonal and organizational skills;
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including evening and weekends; 
  • Must hold a valid state of Illinois driver’s license; and
  • Bilingual (Spanish) preferred.

Working Conditions:  

  • Monday - Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.
