Duties

REQUIREMENTS: RN with current Illinois State Nursing Licensure; Minimum two years nursing experience; must have or be willing to obtain IDPH certification as an “Evaluator” and successful completion of “Train the Trainer'' course; must demonstrate an ability to accept cultural and ethnic differences and adjust teaching techniques if necessary to create a non threatening atmosphere; must have a Bachelor’s in Nursing, Masters preferred.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:  To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential function satisfactorily. 

  • Plan and prepare for classroom, lab, and clinical instruction
  • Lead classroom, lab, and clinical instruction
  • Utilize instructional materials, methods, techniques, and resources appropriate to individual learner’s needs to assist adults in acquiring basic literacy and nursing skills.
  • Incorporate curriculum materials that will increase students’ knowledge of employability skills and responsible citizenship skills while teaching nursing assistant skills. 
  • Maintain accurate attendance records.
  • Follow up student absences by telephone and/or mail to encourage good attendance 
  • Maintain good communication with support staff and administration to help students remove barriers to good attendance and achievement of their goals.
  • Attend staff meetings and other professional meetings as requested.
  • Maintain a personal commitment to lifelong learning and enhancement of professional abilities. Meet all required professional development requirements. 
  • Communicate with all adult education staff to increase awareness of changes in program opportunities which could benefit students.
  • Assist the CNA Coordinator with paperwork and data collection duties, as assigned. 
  • Supervision of CNAs during clinical rotation.
  • Conduct other duties as requested.

Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS:

 

EDUCATION

  • Must be an RN with current Illinois State Nursing Licensure. Bachelor’s in Nursing, Masters preferred.

EXPERIENCE 

  • Minimum two years Nursing experience either teaching in an accredited nurse’s training program and/or caring for the elderly or the chronically ill of any age through employment in a nursing facility, unit of a hospital, hospice, or a long-term care setting.  
  • Qualified by IDPH as an “Evaluator” and successful completion of “Train the Trainer” preferred. 
  • Must demonstrate an ability to accept cultural and ethnic differences and adjust teaching techniques if necessary to create a non threatening atmosphere

 

OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES:  

 

  • Must be highly organized with the ability to multitask and meet deadlines
  • Strong instructional skills that result in high student engagement and retention.
  • Must have strong customer service skills
  • Must be able to communicate effectively and collaborate with all staff, students, community members, and other stakeholders
  • Knowledge of technology, including Word, Excel, Google Docs, Google Classroom, Google Sheets, Google Forms, Video Conferencing platforms
  • Ability to build rapport with youth of diverse backgrounds
  • Once trained, must be able to problem-solve, take initiative, and work independently.
  • Must have strong classroom management skills and be able to supervise students independently.

 

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:  Part-time; hours vary and are established based on the needs of the program.

 

NOTE: This is a NON-EXEMPT, non-bargaining unit, non-administrative position.

 

EVALUATION:  To be completed by the Director of Adult Education using the district’s evaluation instrument.

Salary/Benefits

SALARY RANGE: $28.00-$32.00/hour; commensurate with education and experience
