Spanish Teacher - Part Time

Duties

JOB GOAL: To motivate each pupil to develop competencies, knowledge and skills in aurally comprehending, speaking, reading and writing in a foreign language, in accordance with each pupil’s ability; to interpret to pupil’s the culture of the countries where foreign language is spoken; to discover and develop special talents of pupils in foreign language communication. 

 

RESPONSIBILITIES:   

  • Teaches skills and knowledge in foreign language instruction to secondary high school pupils, utilizing course of study adopted by the Board of Education and other appropriate learning activities.  Modern foreign language teachers (French, Spanish) teach aural comprehension, speaking, reading and writing.  
  • Instructs pupils in citizenship and basic subject matter specific in state law and administrative regulations and procedures of the school district. 
  • Develops lesson plans and supplementary materials compatible with the basic instructional philosophy.  
  • Provides learning experiences which develop the basic communication skills, utilizing tape records and other electronic equipment as appropriate. 
  • Provides individualized and small groups instruction in order to adapt the curriculum to the needs of each pupil. 
  • Instructs pupils in safe operation of any electronic equipment used in language instruction. Makes minor adjustments and requests repairs as required. 
  • Develops pupil understanding and appreciation of culture of countries where the studied language is spoken. 
  • Establishes and maintains standards of pupil behavior needed to provide an orderly, productive classroom environment. 
  • Evaluates each pupil’s progress in aural comprehension, speaking, reading and writing the foreign language in relationships to the level being taught. 
  • Selects and requisitions books, instructional aids and instructional supplies; maintains required inventory records. 
  • Communicates with parents and school counselors on pupil progress. 
  • Identifies pupil needs and cooperates with other professional staff members in helping pupils solve health, attitude and learning problems. 
  • Supervises pupils in out-of-classroom activities during the assigned working day.  
  • Participates in curriculum and other developmental activities. 
  • Participates in faculty committees and the sponsorship of student activities. 
  • Maintains professional competence through in-service education activities provided by the district, and in self-selected professional growth activities, such as foreign language workshops. 
  • Participates cooperatively with the appropriate administrator to develop the method by which the teacher will be evaluated in conformance with distinct guidelines. 

Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS:

    1. Certification (03 or 10) 

  1. BA Degree(s) required and area of major study 
  2. Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable. 

Salary/Benefits

SALARY: Commensurate with salary schedule within the Knoxville Education Association (KEA)

2024-2025 $40,977 + Steps (Full Time)

2025-2026 $42,616 + Steps (Full Time)
