Duties

  1. Schedule students in appropriate courses.
  2. Consult with students, parents and staff to assist students with academic/career planning.
  3. Meet individually with every 9-12th grade student and develop a career plan.
  4. Assist students with scholarship, college entrance, and financial aid applications.
  5. Collects student grades from teachers and develops student grade reports.
  6. Serve as the School to Work, Education for Employment, Tech-Prep and District Assessment Coordinator.
  7. Schedule and coordinate Student Assessment Tests as well as the ACT, PSAT, SAT, ASVAB, etc.
  8. Maintains student records and transcripts. Works with the officials from other schools when students transfer in or out of Cairo Jr/Sr High School.
  9. Establishes and participates in career fairs and site visits for students in helping develop future plans.
  10. Adhere to and support board policy, school guidelines, administrative rules and directives.
  11. Make him/herself available to all students seeking guidance and counseling services.
  12. Advocate on behalf of the student and/or his/her family. Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students.
  13. Monitors each student’s academic program to ensure the student has the opportunity to meet all high school graduation requirements.
  14. Facilitate outreach efforts to provide services to students, parents/guardians and staff. 
  15. Connect students, parents/guardians and staff with specialized referral agencies.
  16. Understand, evaluate, and interpret academic performance data. Interpret information about students to the student, their parents/guardians, and staff.
  17. Implement individual and group counseling methods that are appropriate.
  18. Conduct career and educational planning activities. 
  19. Participate in in-service activities promoted by the district.
  20. Provides input in the development of the School Improvement Plan (SIP).
  21. Submit required reports promptly and accurately.
  22. Perform other duties as assigned by Building Principal or Superintendent.

Qualifications

Masters Degree in School Counseling with Illinois Type 73 Certification

Salary/Benefits

Salary and benefits adhere to the Cairo Association of Teachers contract with the Board of Education.

Additional Notes

Performance in this position will be evaluated regularly by the Cairo Jr/Sr High School Principal in accordance with Board Policy
